Woke up about 7:30 this morning when could have slept in. Sat out on the beautiful patio overlooking the caldera and Oia and wrote in my blog for a couple of hours. The sun is out but not too hot yet. Morning uneventful. Breakfast served outside then packing. Grant and I are worried about the weight of our bags since I've added my souvenirs. We are able to stay in the room with WiFi and nice a/c until taxi comes at 1:00. Taxi tells us how dangerous the ATVs are on the roads. He said at least 2 deaths per month. Just as he said that the ATV in front of us hit the curb and I don't know how it didn't flip. He said he had had to stop numerous times to help injured people. We manage through the Santorini airport without much trouble. We are early and our lines are not long. No line at security which is great. The taxi driver told us about a patio upstairs to wait. Glad we head up there not nearly as crowded. Sandwich beer and sesame treat from snack bar. We are trying to decide if our plane is late and what is going on. There are thunderstorms in Athens and it has delayed everything.
Some how our plane was on time and made it to Athens no problem. Passengers on delayed planes to Athens were very upset as we boarded and they did not. Car hire was waiting and uneventful ride to hotel. NJV Athens Plaza. We ventured down the Meteopoleos for our last souvlaki. Outside at O Thanasis Kebob. They say best in town but I think just ok. Made our way to Lukumades for donuts in honey and then stroll slowly back to hotel. Stopped by corner stand and purchased the best Acropolis model for Grants collection. Grant and I walked up the Syntagma square to watch the changing of the guard. We had a front row view and the Traditional costumes and matching was entertaining. People started a small protest by yelling. Kind of spooked us but all was ok. Great last event in Greece.
