We decided to do the Serengeti because we still hadn't seen a lion in the wild and this would be our last opportunity. There were 4 new people on the trip now. Another couple and two girls in the year below us. The people picking us up were late which was frustrating because of how much we had paid for the trip! We ate lunch at ngorongoro crater by some zebra and maribu stork with eagles circling trying to catch our food. After we went on to a masai mara village and got to dance with the masai people which was cool then a guy our age showed us into a hut which was tiny! He said because he was a masai warrior he couldnt get a wife until he was 25 but he wanted one now. We then went to the kindegarden just outside the village where the children practise their english before going to proper school, it was really interesting seeing how these people lived.
From here we went to the Serengeti and did a sunset drive it was only an hour or so but we managed to spot our first lioness and cheetah with a dead impala. I'm sure that it would have been longer if they had obviously turned up in time. Our guide kept trying to drive off as it was getting dark and he would obviously be in trouble for not being in a designated camping zone after sunset but we were all so mad at him we kept shouting for him to let us see it which he eventually succumbed to. After paying around $500 each for this trip he really shouldnt of been late.
The next morning we got up really early and went on a game drive we saw hyeana, giraffe, lioness, zebra, impala, gazelle and cheetahs. We saw 2 cheetahs kill a hare which was really cool but they kept playing with him and we could hear the hares last screams which weren't so nice. As much as we really wanted to see a hunt I don't think we would have liked if it was anything larger than a little rabbit. We also followed a whole pack of lions chasing some zebra but missed it because there were so many other safari trucks also trying to go that way but getting so close to lions was so cool. Our guide was actually really nice once we gave him a chance and he was really bullish so he would push in front of the other safari trucks which was good for us but probably really pissed off everyone else. Its a dog eat dog world in this safari park!! We also saw these little hyrax everywhere which have tiny tusks when they yawn apprently. We had an amazing lunch then set off for Ngorongoro crater where we all piled in a tent and sang lots of songs to kill the boredom. We had been told that Camping here would be as cold as camping in South Africa but they were lying. Although colder than usual it was nothing compared to South Africa and those of us that had been on the trip that long were vastly over prepared.
The next morning at Ngorongoro crater was really cold because we were so high up and quite boring for the first hour. The guy said there was rhino in the distance but when I looked through the binoculars it was a buffalo but Hollie swears she saw a rhino. Then we saw 2 male lions which was amazing they werent doing much but we watched them for ages and our guy got us right to the front so we got some good photos the other half of the group in a different truck didn't have such a bullish driver so didnt get as close. After them we saw a whole pride of lions and we must of seen 20 that day-we were very satisfied with the amount of lions we saw and very glad we did the trip! We also saw jackals which we hadnt seen yet. We were just so happy to see males lions and now we have properly seen the big 5 all really up close throughout our journey which is so lucky!
On our last night at the camp we visited the snake park they had next door to the campsite and had a few drinks. It was sad having to say goodbye to everyone that we had lived with 24/7 for over a month!!
