We had our last day on the truck, it was another long drive where we were occupied with some more cheesy music to sing along to. When we reached Nairobi, having eaten we got a burger and chips from a takeaway, the burger was nice but we got a mountain of chips each, we couldnt finish them and they made us feel sick because we had so many. We reached camp and unloaded everything from the truck, went on internet and then ordered a taxi. It was strange saying bye to everyone and we were really sad to be leaving the trip we left everyone obscure presents from things we accumulated but didn't want to take with us like water bottles and food.
Us and Jen all got the taxi to our hostel so we could do a tour the next day together. The tour was vastly overpriced on first quote just for a tour of the city we didn't really know what to do but once the man knew we weren't bargaining we just actually weren't going to do the tour the price dropped massively and he told us the car wouldn't be too good. The car was an old banger but the tour itself was good. We went to the american memorial, a museum dedicated to the bombing of the american embassy by al-Qaeda in 1998 which killed hundreds of people. It was actually a good museum with lots of detail as to what happened and it also had Obama's signature on the wall which was cool.
Next we drove through the centre and onto another museum- the Nairobi national museum which was very big and grand and I could've probably spent a few hours in there. We did debate going in but the price was rather expensive so we decided against it and just went into a little souvenir shop instead where I bought a charm and some magnets of Kenya. Then to a giraffe sanctuary where we fed them at head height and could kiss them if we wanted which we did numerous times. We also listened to a little lecture about the different types of giraffe and hope this centre is set up for an endangered species of giraffe.
At the hostel we got some lunch of kuku choma (spiced chicken with maize, potatoe, avocado mash) and a pizza. it was really really good and dirt cheap so we will be eating there again! We said goodbye to Jen because she decided to go back to Karen camp on the outskirts of the city as she had two more days in Nairobi and this place wasn't the nicest. Nairobi really does have a dangerous feel to it- our hostel was fully gated and it felt unsafe crossing the road to get cash out at an ATM. It was the only place we felt like this in Africa since arriving in Cape Town. Consequently when the rest of our group returned to Nairobi after going to Uganda two of the new girls got robbed.
