We arrived at the next town which was quite a big town, we stayed in a hostel here which was a really nice change to the tent. The hostel was quite nice, We got into our room which we shared a room with Chloe and Stu, we sorted out our washing and tried getting on WiFi but it wouldn't let us. We planned to go out for steak that night as it was Monica's Birthday, so we headed into town which was quite far and got into a steakhouse. The group all sat on separate tables of about 6 which was good as everyone had been complaining about large group dinners and the bill never being right.
Pretty much everyone ordered steak, each person ordered either rare or blue. They came out and the waiter just said steak, he didn't mention how it was cooked which was disconcerting, but we could work out who's was who's by the side. When we cut into them we realised they were all way overcooked, the blue one was medium rare and all the rare ones were medium to well done. Mine wasn't too bad, it was medium but I still quite like that, the girls next to me was black and so was Gráinne's. We called the waiter and showed him the inside and said we asked for rare, he looked and said yes, that is rare. We were all amazed at how an Argentinian steakhouse were so bad at cooking steak, and it was a really popular busy steakhouse as well. Eventually he took the steak back and brought it out again but it looked like it barely touched the pan, it was very blue. It was a bit of a disappointing meal as we had high expectations.
After the meal we went to a casino on the way home and each put in $10 on roulette and let Monica pick red or black, she picked red and we won so doubled our money, we took this and left to a bowling alley for some drinks, it also had pool table where everyone could play.
The tour driver brought a helmet for the birthday girl for her to run down the alley and and slide into the pins, she had a go at it and dived right at the last point but didn't slide and only just nudged the first pin, it looked like it hurt. We continued playing pool and a local challenged me to a game of pool, I agreed to be polite and then he whipped out his own queue and started playing, I didn't do to bad, we both made it to the 8 ball but he ended up winning and made it to the end trying to communicate in different languages.
After this we went back home to bed for the glacier the next morning.
We got on the bus the next day and made our way to Puerto Marino glacier which was a huge glacier that was one of the worlds few glaciers that was still growing. On the bus we all had to sit separate as all the Argentinians had window seats, even though they were together they sat separate which was very bizarre, we stopped for coffee and i asked the couple that we were sat next to if we could swap, he said no because he preferred the window but he eventually moved. We got off the bus early and did a walk but could only see the glacier from a far, I don't know what the point of it was as we we right near it after this. The glacier was very impressive, it was about a kilometre wide and 60m high. You could see the frozen river go for miles and miles beyond the front, it was really incredible to see. We walked down right near it and huge bits of ice were falling into the river, there was one huge bit, the full height of the glacier that fell off and caused a huge wave. The others went on the boat but we stayed back because we wanted to save a bit of money.
Later that evening we cooked in the hostel, we bought steak and pasta to cook, we cooked the steak rare and it was very good.
The next morning we left at half 7, Chloe and stu got up at about 6.30, we got up about 7.15.
