Hiring bikes in the New York heat was probably not the best idea but our itinerary here is so tight we went ahead. We set off around the promenade and headed over Brooklyn Bridge - OMG - that was hard work - lots of stops and warm water to drink but we finally got to the other side and had a well deserved paddle in the Hudson River. Cycling back earned us a nice cold ice cold Popsicle which took us about an hour to eat - yes, they were THAT big.

So glad we had body clock malfunction this morning. We had planned to get to the Statue of Liberty ferry by 8am anyway as we'd read that it gets very busy. We eventually got there at 8.15 due to transit line closure (due to maintenance) and only needed to wait 15 minutes in temperatures of 85! 5000 plus kilometres (and yes we're in macdonalds!) and we've arrived to scorching heat of 38 degrees centigrade! It actually feels like we're sitting in a sauna fully clothed. We made it to the hotel using public transport without any arguments and the hotel is great. Early night tonight ready for an early start at the Statue of Liberty tomorrow...
