Graeme round the world
Day 40 Wed 3rd April City tour of Auckland in the morning, including Mt Eden Volcano crater, views of Sky tower the tallest building in the Southern Hemisphere when it was built at around 1,000ft. Went across Auckland bridge, built by a British co which also built Sydney Harbour bridge. Visited the Auckland Museum, with fab Maori exhibition, including boats, houses and weapons. There are 1.5m people living in Auckland and there are only 4m people in the whole country, so roads and beaches are deserted by UK standards. Took afternoon guided eco-tour to the heart of New Zealand wilderness to the Waitakere ranges then onto a stunning waterfall, into the rainforest and then to the rugged beach and empty apart from a few surfers,. Finally visited another forest where the Kauri trees grow to 2,500 years old. Met a nice Korean couple on the tour and Katrina from Austria and we are going to meet up later for dinner :o) It has been a stunning day for scenery and nature and I've loved it :o))))))))
