As the Goa Police hate tourists they only allow music until 10pm at night. Bars that want to stay open longer either have to bribe the Police or run the risk of having their party stopped and their Bar demollished.
The organisers of the "Silent Noise" partys get around the 10pm music curfew by equipping partying people with Headphones. Last night's party has to be the weirdest I've ever been to.
With your headphones off the party is reduced to drunk people stumbling around in a silent field. With your headphones on though the party feels like a proper party again as you can hear the music that's uniting all the people that are dancing. They had two DJ's last night and a button on the headphone let you switch channels so if you're bored of one you can swap to the other. I enjoyed watching people dance and trying to work out which DJ they were dancing to.
The party was held on the peninsula of land between Palolem and Colom beach and involved a fair bit of climbing rocks in the dark to get to it. On the way home it was a challenge! Silent Noise was held on the windiest night so far, in the windiest place. The wind sent our beer-table rocking with every gust and stopped posseurs swinging their poids about. After a night in the wind-tunnel we had the best cup of chai and staggered home.
Odd but fun!
