We woke up on the Wednesday about 8am (nice lie in) and loaded everything into the car for our journey to Kings Canyon. It was a shorter drive to do. As we were driving we were trying to work out the actual time as we went over yesterdays events. When we finally arrived at Kings Canyon we asked at reception the time…and we had been working on one hour ahead. So no wonder we were early for sunset, and early for sunrise, and we missed our 8am free tour! I had to have words with Graeme when I realised he'd actually got me up at 3.30am to see sunrise!
We pitched up our tent and then looked over a map in the car, luckily as it started to rain heavily. We ended up sitting there a while as it was pouring. When the rain eased we went for a little wander around the campsite to a sunset viewing area, but it was still quite cloudy. We made an early dinner of pasta and eggy bread and then decided to check out the campsite bar. They had entertainment on 'The Roadies' a man and woman performing songs Oz style. They kept getting people up to the front doing bits. The woman came over to us and asked if we could sing. I said Graeme could, but probably as punishment she grabbed me and made me stand at the front with a few other victims. She gave us all a hat - mine was a cow hat (as apparently I have a pet one) - and we all had to do actions to a crazy song at the front. It was fun though.
The next morning we drove out to the Kings Canyon. We first did a 1 hour walk through the canyon which was really nice (except we got stuck behind a slow tour). We then decided to do the rim walk which first climbed up the rocks and then you walk round the rim of the canyon. It was amazing. Beautiful views. It took us about 4 hours to do the circuit, and when we were done we were shattered. We popped back to the campsite that afternoon and attempted another walk that went around the resort. We soon realised that the views were not as good and decided it wasn't worth carrying on as our feet hurt so went back for a swim in the campsite pool.
We were going to go to the campsite restaurant for dinner originally for a buffet for about £20 plus a free drink, but we were very good and decided to save money, plus it had been lovely weather all day so we decided to do a bbq for dinner. We popped to get some meat and when we returned the bbq spot we wanted had been nicked! So we wandered across the field to another one but ended up having to share with 2 German guys as there one wasn't working. We enjoyed a delicious bbq and had a chat with the guys.
Afterwards, we tidied up and went to start playing cards under a sheltered area. Just as we dealed Uno a massive gush of wind blew our cards. It was proper windy, we wondered if it was a storm. We decided to eventually get into the tent quick to make sure it stayed down. The rain then came that night.
