We woke quite early since the air bed had gone down in the night, I had tried to plug the hole with my bum at the start but must have rolled over in my sleep. We headed off towards Darwin and along the way stopped off at another visitor centre to learn about the local area. We were almost back on the highway and saw a sign for jumping crocodile tours, we pulled and had a look around. It was a bit expensive so we headed further down the road and found another for a lot cheaper and you got free tea, although had to drive down a dirt track to find it and we were starting to run very low on petrol. We paid our money and waited for the tour to start keeping our fingers crossed that it wasn't cheaper because it was a dinghy or we were the bait. A lady brought out a snake for people to hold but unfortunately i Iouldnt as I had sun cream on and apparently you cant then. After waiting for half an hour reading newspaper clippings they had about crocodiles eating people we headed to the boat.
Thankfully the boat wasn't a dinghy and had a few floors so we quickly headed to the top. We set of along the Adelaide River and we got to stand by the window as there was only about 10 people on the trip. After 5 minutes we came across a small female crocodile about my length and pulled along side it, and someone had a fishing rod with a bit of steak on the end. They kept dipping it in the water and out but the croc was obviously not interested and just swam under the water and disappeared. We carried on for another 5 minutes and came across another saltwater crocodile, which was male and about 4 meters long. The meat was dipped in a couple of times and it spent around 5 minutes swimming alongside it and circling it, licking its lips. Then after it had kept us waiting for a while its tail slowly disappeared under the water so its head was just sticking out at a slight angle. Then it must have whipped its tail and it came leaping out of the water towards the steak. Its whole body up to its tail must have come out, it was incredible to see, and great that it was in the wild. It continued doing it for a few times until it finally got the steak and then swam off.
We carried on and came across another crocodile which they had nicknamed snappy, the boat driver said he had already fed him today and wanted to try find another so carried on. We only had to sail a bit further to get to another, which did a few cool jumps for the steak. The driver told us that we best move on as snappy might have tried catching up with us and he was a boat climber so not to stick our heads over the side. There was a group of Japanese tourists who carried on doing it, he said that he would laugh if snappy bit there head off and said it would be good news as they would get some more bait. The Japanese guys just carried on, obviously not understanding English, they guy was unlucky though and didn't get any free bait.
We carried on and stopped for a few more before they told us we had to start heading back. Then on the way back they got scraps of meat and through it into the air to attract some giant Kites. There must have been around a dozen of them circling the boat, they kept swooping down for the scraps of meat, it was incredible to see. We got back to the start part and then headed back along the dirt track stopping at a visitor centre before getting back on the road. The second we got on the road the red petrol light flashed on, oh dear, thankfully after 30km we found a petrol station and topped up before continuing on to Darwin.
We drove round for a bit and found a YHA hostel and checked in to a four-bed dorm. We dumped some bits then headed off for a walk round town. We headed for a walk along the sea front and then to the harbour area where they had a beach sectioned off as it was safe from crocs and a wave machine pool also. We bought some ice cream and sat looking out to sea, the ice cream Rachel thought was the best ever. We then headed back to the hostel grabbing some food for dinner. The hostel had a TV lounge so we sat watching Alien.
When we went back to the room we met our 2 room mates, another couple who were from Hertford!!! Coincidence! Had a bit of a chat with them. They were leaving at 4.30am the next morning unfortunately to catch a flight though.
