We left Cameroon Highlands around 8:30am and headed off on our luxury coach, it had large cozy seats with head rests which made a nice change from some of the ones we've been in. We arrived in Kuala Lumpur (KL) around 1:30pm and I left Rachel guarding the bags in the bus station while I ran round trying to get our baring. After half an hour walking up and down the streets I realised we were just round the corner to where we wanted to be, I went back exhausted and sweating from the heat to find Rachel nice and relaxed in the air conditioned bus station. We headed out towards the china town to find some lodging and someone gave us a leaflet for a guesthouse then lead us there. It looked ok but was £12 a night for the room so we decided to keep looking. We found a place which had been recommended called Monkey Inn which was £11 a night but with a free breakfast. We decided this was a good plan as we could stock up on breaky and miss lunch so we took the box room, which just fit a bed in and had an aircon unit which was split through the wall with the next doors room.
We then headed out for a bit of a walk around China Town. There was a sign for the Central Market so I asked Rachel if she wanted to go there and shockingly she said no. She suggested we went to the tourist information she had found on the map she had. Ok I said and we headed off with her directing. After walking for around an hour she finally says she's not sure where we are so hands me the map and points to where we are heading. Its at this point when I see the big 'I' we are heading to…….which is surrounded by other big I's all over the map, some about a 5 minute walk from where we started. We carry on heading towards Rachel's 'I' and arrive to find a demolition site and no tourist information centre. We find a bit of shade and relaxed for half an hour and drank the last 2 gulps of the water we had and started heading back. This time I took the map and we followed the single road back and hot back in half the time.
On the way back we past a museum, which Rachel suggested we went in. It was free so we popped in and had a wander around. We then saw it had a coffee shop so went in but saw a sign saying they close at 6:00 and it was 5:50, we were about to leave when the waitress came over and said don't worry we can go out through the back door by the shop. So we enjoyed a well-deserved cup of coffee and relaxed for a while. We then went to the door, they unlocked it for us and went outside and they locked it behind us……..as we heard the door lock we started to realise that we weren't outside we were just in the outer rim of the museum. We walked round it in all directions trying to find an exit but they were all padlocked down. You might be thinking now "COOL, locked in a museum, you can play on all the statues and stuff, it will be just like the film Night in the Museum", unfortunately this is the part when I tell you it was a textiles museum. In the end we finally banged on the door which had been locked behind us and someone came and escorted us out.
We then walked over to the Central Market and pondered around for a while looking at all the little stalls before grabbing a bit in the food hall. We then went to the Central Market Stage as there was a free Martial Arts show. It started off with a band hitting some drum things for the first 5 minutes. Then it stopped for a bit. Then they started playing again, exactly the same tune. Then a guy came on and did some Martial Arts dance thing and went off, then a kid came on and did the same and went off. The band then started playing again…..the same tune. After hearing them play the same tune about 10 times and no other Martial Arts people came on we decided that we were not going to get to see any fighting or people being killed so left. We wondered around China Town again for a bit then crashed out for the night.
