The next couple of days ended up being a little lazy. On Tuesday I went to Museum Island at about noon. All the lines were absolutely huge, so I decided I would look online and conceive a better plan to tackle this.
In the end the only thing I did was visit the cathedral, which itself was quite amazing. I've always loved the architecture of old cathedrals, and this was no exception. There was even access right up to the dome where you could walk around on the outside.
That night was the first night I really decided I needed to get out and do something to try and meet some people. So I took a pub crawl. 5 different pubs, each more clubbier than the last. It started basically right outside the door to my hostel which was handy. Unfortunately it ended somewhere I had no idea where I was. All I knew is that there were trains and subways involved in getting there, and they all stopped running by the time I wanted to get home. I met some Americans, and a cool Canadian guy, but ultimately no one that I would continue my journey with.
Amazingly at the last place we went, a club called The Matrix,, at about 2am I ran into Matt, who for a time was part of the German class I took in Perth. Talk about a completely random encounter. Unfortunately even he too was not in Berlin for much longer.
The next day was also a rather quiet one, mostly due to being rather hungover. I slept late and when I finally got up and managed to get something to eat I didn't feel like doing a whole lot. In the end I went to Sea Life, an aquarium. It was quite short, only taking not much over an hour to complete and not really offering a whole lot more than what I had already seen at the Melbourne Aquarium. However, at the end was the Aqua Dom. This is a 25m high cylindrical aquarium with an elevator going up the middle. It was really pretty cool. Looking out at the fish from the top and it almost looks as though the fish are just flying through the air.
This night was finally the first night that I had dinner not alone. I ate with a Korean girl who was staying in my dorm though was leaving the next day. That was nice though I get the feeling I'm going to have to get quite use to eating alone.
This particular entry ended up being quite short. I guess I really did just have two days of not doing a whole lot. So I guess I'll end it with a few random observations about Berlin.
One thing which stood out to me quite early was when walking along the river Spree. There were deck and lounge chairs and people sunbathing and such. Basically like what you'd expect to see at a beach. I guess when the nearest coastline is 100s of kms away you make do. Kinda weird to see when coming from a country where pretty much everyone lives not far from the beach.
Night in Berlin brought about a whole other observation. And that is the hookers. Perfectly legal here and very prominent. I noticed this mostly on the night of the pub crawl which was the first night I was really out all that late. Though you only have to be out around 9ish to start seeing them come out on just about every street corner.
Actually, on the note of the pub crawl the other thing which hit was the alcohol laws. Whenever it was time to move on to the next pub they just gave as a plastic cup to pour our drink into and we were off. Drinking on the streets is no problem whatsoever. So freeing and so awesome.

Alan Always good when you don't need to worry about finishing your beverage before movie on to the next location. I remember enjoying that freedom in Greece.
Isabel Can't believe you bumped into Matt!
