Well, we were picked up at 6.15am by a guy called Dave who we thought worked for OZ experience, after all thats what we had booked. Oh boy were we in for a surpries, apparently a company called, "Adventure Tours", (yes the word adventure scared us too) are contracted by the Oz Experience to do the trip from Alice to Adelaide. The first thing he said to us was, "have you got walking boots", the look of horror crept over our faces, walking boots, what the hell are they. However the worst was yet to come, camping too, oh wonderful, we couldn't wait 6 days of roughing it ahead.
Well we decided that there was absolutely nothing we could do about the misunderstanding so we thought lets just make the most of it. After a 3hr drive we arrived at Kings Canyon, our first hike. We were told we had to wear our trainers as Australia has 9 out of the 10 most deadliest snakes in the world and they like to lash out at peoples feet (what had we let ourselves in for). The climb to the top wasn't particularly difficult but in the 45 degree heat it was a bloody killer. We made it though and were very impressed with ourselves too, well somebody had to be as we were obviously not the strongest walkers of the group.
Our next stop was Uluru or Ayers Rock where we were to be camping for the next 2 nights. This is when we got our first glimpse of the rock and believe me it is a lot bigger than we ever expected. The campsite was pretty basic but well what can you expect it's meant to be an "adventure tour". The bbq was lush and we were pretty tired so out came the swags which we lined up out in the open air and we all had a great sleep underneath the stars. I have to say it was a sight worth seeing, there were millions of stars. We all slept like logs.
Lots of love Claire and Anna xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
