Arrived in Alice Springs after a bumpy flight on a very small aeroplane. We were greeted by a stereotypical aussie bloke who was full of smiles and enthusiasm, so being very naive we took his advise and booked into Toddy's Backpackers. During our drive from the airport he tried to convince us that we needed at least 4 days in Alice to see everything, can't believe we nearly fell for this. He also encouraged us to take the Alice Wanderer, a bus that takes us to all the places of "interest", and if we mention Harrys name we get a $5 discount, fantastic we thought, lets do it.
When we arrived at Toddy's we were slightly shell shocked, what the hell had we let ourselves in for. The bloke that checked us in had a big bushy ponytail that reached half way down his back, one of the longest beards we have ever seen and a t-shirt showing the contents of each meal he had consumed in the past week, oh my god this was redneck city.
We were staying in a mixed dorm for only $12 a night so we felt we had no right to complain about the foisty smell that filled the room and the damp feel to the bunk beds. We decided to head into town to see what Alice had to offer, met up with Anna's mate from uni and had a couple of drinks. Up early the next morning and the excitement for our tour was already setting in so, it was back to Toddy's for a kip.
Love Claire and Anna xxxxxxx
