Set off for our "trip of a lifetime" round Alice at 9am. We were unable to control our excitement as we reached The Old Telegraph Station, yes it really was as thrilling as it sounds! $6 poorer we then headed to the School of the Air which is the largest school in the world. Teachers transmit lessons to kids who live in the outback covering up to 1.3 million square kilometres. The Alice Springs school was the first of its type, a system only used in Australia. This and the Royal Flying Doctors Centre (our next stop) were the highlights of the day. The RFD does really exist, its not just a cheesy 80's soap opera. We decided to give the Camel Centre and the Date Farm a miss and go for a pub meal instead, (well would you find a date farm interesting?)Its a good job we did that because it started to rain- not spots, not a drizzel but heavy, bouncing off the floor rain. This is in the middle of summer, in a part of Australia that sees drought for fifteen years on the trot- typical english tourism!
Anyway, early to bed and early to rise for our next trip!
lots of love from Anna and Claire xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
