Monday. Our last full day here. Tony lent us his Subaru and we drove further round the coast south & west stopping at Cygnet for coffee & cake. Yum! Cygnet was a charming little place, the sun had decided to make an appearance and we sat outside at a very rustic table watching the hippy/bohemian people coming and going, a very friendly lot.
We continued on and drove up the east side of the Huon river to - you guessed it - Huonville! Here we crossed the river bridge and drove down the other side of the river to Geevston where we purchased tickets for the Tahune AirWalk. This is a walkway high in the forest canopy suspended between vertical piers a intervals so as to minimise intrusion to the forest, yet still provide access. The forest is mainly different varieties of gum trees, with many giant varieties. Now we are used to giant trees as we have lingered amongst the Californian Redwoods. Some of these Swamp Gums, a type of Eucaliptus I think are nearly as tall but I don't think they are as old. They are also grey in colour & some are as ramrod straight as telegraph poles. The AirWalk takes you up to near treetop hight where you get a fabulous view of the forest and also the confluence of two rivers.
We returned to Hobart and travelled into town for dinner with our hosts and four of their friends - two of whom had just arrived from the UK.
