Sat 22nd - we arrived on island just after 10.30 - the island was soooo cute - there are no cars or motorbikes allowed on island so its all very laid back - all the little streets are cobbled and its just heaven - we were just praying that the wether improved as we are definately in need of some more beach action. The island in general is quite expensive - it was hit real bad by the tsunami and therefore most of the bungalows etc are new - qwe went from bungalow to bungalow and eventually found one with a price we felt happy to pay. We spent the day on the beach and had a few drinks in the evening but didnt have a heavy night.
Sun 23rd - We had a lie in (again) and when we got up we went to a cafe called Little Britain cafe for breakfast - Gill and Katie had a full english (Gill veggie option) but it was real sausages, heinz beans etc - a bit of luxury! We then walked along the coastline to a beach called Long Beach - a lot quieter than the one we were on the previous day - however to get there we had to do a lot of scrambling over rocks - it was fun - the sea here was incredibly clear and was deep quite close to shore - the beach the previous day was quite rocky under foot and you had to go out miles before it even reached waist depth. That night we ended up in a reggae bar that has a Thai boxing ring - at first there was a display fight with two thais fighting - the lads next to us were arguing it was fake - and it probably was. Next it was the turn of tourists to get up and fight and if you did you got a free bucket drink - the fight we saw was between an Australian and a Finish man - the finish man won but he came away with a couple of black eyes and an bloody nose - nice! the lads next to us said the previous night someone had had their shin broken - its all a bit crazy if you ask me - we only stayed for oune fight as it wasnt really our scene!
Mon 24th - Today Gill and I went on a snorkelling trip (and Katie went rock climbing). We firstly visited monkey island - very cute and lots of monkeys - it was a little sad though as there was rubbish on the beach and one monkey was playing with an empty been can - whilst it made a funny picture its pretty awful really. And one of the tour guides from another boat gave a bottle of coca cola to a small monkey, as it started to drink it, a larger monkey came and grabbed it off of the smaller one and drank it all - it cannot have been good for the monkey! We then stopped just off of Long Beach and went snorkelling - I've never really snorkelled properly before and where ever i have its not been anywhere that exciting. Here however the sea is crystal and we were snorkelling over coral - all of the fish were amazing - it was like a scene right out of Finding Nemo! We saw so many different fish, from tiny ones, to stripy ones and ones over a foot long- it was incredible :)
Nest stop was Maya Bay - this is the bay where the film 'The Beach' was filmed. It was just as beautiful as it is in the movie - it was just a shame it was really cloudy. We had lunch on the beach, went for a little exploration and then had a little swim. We headed around the island to another snorkelling area - this one was even better - we were much closer to the coral - my favourite part was floating right about the coral and watching the ins and the outs - its a whole world in itself -AMAZING It was also really cool when the tour guide threw food off of the boat for the fish right bedside you - this would previously have freaked us both out but it was just so incredible being so close to these beautiful fish - there were hundreds of them around you all trying to get at the food - they were not scaerd by you! the next stop was bamboo island - as we were travelling here the weather turned, started raining and the sea got choppy - it was a beautiful island that only fisherman lived on but we were all too cold and wet to want to be on the beach or in the sea - we then headed back to the main land - we were supposed to see the sunset on the tour but as the weather was so awful we headed straight back to the pier.
After tea we were wandering around looking for a bar when we buped into Holly, Oli and his brother - we had some buckets drinks with them in an irish bar (where gill and i chatted to some fellow Scots who were wearing Kilts - we loved the alot!) and then the 6 of us headed to hippies bar - where we saw the most amazing fire show ever - all the performers were so talented. After they had finished the dj took over and we danced on the beach for the rest of the evening - got home around 3.30am
Tues 25th - Late start again - breakfast took ages and when we finally reached the beach - just as we put our towels down it started to rain - so we found a cafe with a tv and asked them to put a dvd on but they had none - i ran out and bought one called 'the women' but the cafe had filled up and we couldnt really hear it - we went back to guest house to watch it. That evening we headed out for drinks again at the hippie bar(we heart it alot) and there were fireworks let off which were cool and then they lit loads of massive lanterns and let them go up with the wind (just like in the film the beach).
Phi Phi is definately my favourite place in Thailand so far - its just so beautiful and chilled out - just a shame about the weather - lets hope its better in Krabi. Can't believe we are almost in December - xmas is just around the corner!
Love to everyone xxxxxxxxxxx
