Mon 17th - up early this morning as we wanted to go for a swim before we left fo Koh smaui. Alothough it was just a short ferry crossing to Samui we were not looking forward to it as the sea had been so choppy last time. Luckily though we were on a large cataroman (i cant spell) and it was really smooth. we decide to head to the resort calle Chaweng - the taxi dropped us off at the Lucky Mother bungalows so we grabbed a room and went for a swim. Today was definately the hottest we had had so far - so we made sure we applied and applied suncream - somehow though at the end of the day both our faces were sunburnt - we put it down to us sweating off the suncream as it was so hot - attractive we know but reality! Chaweng was very touristy - it had Boots, Starbucks, McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut - its a bit ridiculous considering its an island of 40,000 people - apparently alot of people go there on two weeks holiday. Anyway we found somewhere to have tea on the main street then headed down to the beach for some drinks - as we were sitting outside a little girl came along challenging us to a game of connect four (for money of course) as we declined i noticed she had a tiny puppy with her - she let me hold it - it was so small it fitted in my hand - and it fell asleep - i felt really sorry for it as she was carrying it around when really it should have been curled up sleeping.
We had recieved an email from friends Lucy and Cliff who we hadnt seen since Cambodia that they were staying in the same resort as us so we headed back to the main street in search of them but sadly no luck. However we did stumble upon my favourite bar so far - it was a brght red VW campervan that had been made into a little bar - with tables and hairs outside of if - it was so cute so we stopped there for a drink. We then got chatting to 4 australians who were at the table next to us - they then took us under their wing for the evening as they had been there a few days and we went to the Green Mango club with them - it was awesome fun. the guys gave us their details for us to contact them in oz with one offering to teach us how to surf - might have to take him up on that!
Tues 18th - Late start to the day - we sunbathed for a few hours then went off in search of ahat to keep the sun off of our faces - Gill was successful but i wasnt. The place we had tea tonight was a sports bar and they were showing a repeat of the Scotland S.Africa rugby game so we enjoyed sitting watching that. Earlier in the day we decided we would go watch a lady-boy cabaret show this evening - it started at 10pm, was free entry but drinks were expensive. The show was called Starz Cabaret - we were seated by the campest waiters ever - they wore little pink aprons, fake eyelashes and gave you your bill in a little silver sequined wallet - it was so cute. The show itself was fantastic - we saw Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Shirley Bassett and many more - some were better than others but all in all it was fantastic - each main singer had male and female backing dancers - the male dancers were young guys probably aged 18-20 who were again so camp and obviously hoping to become a lady boy in a few years time! Our favourite performer was one of the little boys - he was absolutely beautiful and was definately the best dancer there - after the show some of the preformers come into the audience so you can have your pic taken with them - just as we were about to leave we saw the little guy - so we ran over to him and told him he was fab and that he was or favourite - he then offered to have his pic taken with us - we loved him alot! We headed home arond midnight - had an early start as we were heading to Phuket the next day.
Hope everyone is enjoying the cold weather and snow back home ;)
Love Gill and Mel xoxox
