Wed 26th - we left Phi Phi today and headed to Krabi - just a short boat ride away (1.5 hours) - the sea was calm so it was a pleasent journey. When we arrived in Krbai town, a lot of the guest houses were full - we eventually found one and it was nice and cheap - Gill and i had one room and Katie and her friend Sarah who joined us later in the day had the room next door. Not much to do in Krabi town at all - so we pottered around (in the rain) waiting for Sarah to arrive, when she did we hit a cafe and chilled watching a dvd and drinking! and the highlight of the evening was finally meeting a guy that everyone talks about.... one that has kissed a ladyboy....only later on finding out so! hehe
Thurs 27th - woke up just around midday but with not alot to do and horrible weather it didnt matter to much. Wandered around again today - stmbled accross a department store which excited us alot but it was pretty boring. We were basically killing time before Lauren (our american friend who we met in vietnam) finished work and met up with us. I had sent her my mobile number but typically i had missed a digit, we eventually managed to meet up around 7ish. Today was thanksgiving and Laurens American friends were supposed to come join her but they were stuck in Bangkok so we tried to be as American as possible - we went in search of a pub.cafe/bar that served mashed potato (the only part of a thanksgiving dinner available in Thailand) and we celebrated. Afterwards we headed to a bar where Gill and i continued the american theme by buying Lauren a 'Malibu Orange' cocktail - the only americanish one on the menu - it went down a treat and our enthusiasm was appreciated (we think!)
Friday 28th - Gill and i got up at 10, had brekkie and jumped on a little bus to Ao Nang - not far from Krabi but on the beach - Lauren weas working during the day so she was going to come meet us later. We once again had difficulty finding accomodation that was cheap in Ao nang - eventually we bumped into Holly and Oli and they showed us where they were staying (the cheapest place they found) - we got a room and it was ll fine. Ao nang had a lot more little cute shops than Krabi town but once you had been in one you had pretty much been in them all, nevertheless they amused us for a few hours. We then decided to have a sort out of our bags - i managed to chuck away 5 tops that i didnt really wear any more and i had bought a couple more today aswell. Gill only threw away a couple of things - its just so sad parting with things! at the guesthouse we were staying at, we met the guy from Stoke who we origninally met in Bangkok and the two finish girls from Koh Pha-ngan - it really is such a small world. Oli hadnt been very well the last night so they didnt join us for tea tonight - Lauren took us to a night market - it was so much fun being with her as she spoke thai - so she would say something to someone and then we would have to ask her what she said - it probably got on her nerves but we liked it - when we origninally met lauren in vietnam we joked that we would be able to out-thai her by the time we met up, but there was no chance of that happening - our thai was very basic - lauren taught us some more though! After tea we bought some beers, and bacardi breezers (old school) and sat on the beach - we then went in search of a cheap/busy bar but it didnt seem to exist - much to our disappointment we were in bed not long after midnight.
Sat 29th - We decided to head to a beach around the bay for the day/night - Holly and Oli joined us for the day. We headed to a beach called Ton sai - just a 10minute long tail boat ride. It wasnt the most beautiful of beaches as it is more famous for its limestone cliffs and rock climbers but that made it even more interesting. We could sit on the beach and watch them climb up rock faces so steep it was incredible. The next beach around the bay was Railay beach - Thailands most beautiful according the lonely planet - so of course we wanted to check it out - there was a path that you could walk around but to get there you had to climb up some rocks first - the other girls didnt fancy it so it was just Oli and i. We thought after the initial climb it would be a nice little path but we were wrong - it was quite a streuous little path - lots of climbing - worth it though as Railay beach was beautiful - we wandered around for 20mins or so (giving ourselves time to catch our breath) before the return journey. Holly and Oli left just after sunset, Gill, Lauren and i grabbed a drink on the beach before heading back to bungalow to shower and change before heading out for tea. I didnt feel to well though so i went to bed and Gill and Lauren went out for tea. I was sick that evening and felt pretty groggy all night. When we woke in the morning - i still wasnt feeling 100% and we were all covered in mossy bites - i had 7 on my face - not attractive. We headed straight back to Krabi via Ao nang. In Ao nang, lauren put us on the litle bus, telling the driver where to drop us off as we were going to stay at her house in Krabi for a few days relaxation - but she put us on the bus the wrong way - cutting a long story short after changing buses and gonig around in circles we eventually met up with lauren an hour later (the journey took her just over 10mins on her scooter!) Laurens house was really cute - it had a large sofa which was amazingly comfortable - we watched a dvd in the afternoon and another one in the evening with a delivery pizza - it was such luxury.
Mon 1st - Lauren had work today so Gill and i had to amuse ourselves fo the day - we booked our bus for the following day and went in search of a prezzie for Lauren - thanking her for putting us up for a few days - were totally struggling for ideas when Gill came up with buying her a small xmas tree, and it was the 1st of december so it was allowed. so that is what we did, we got a small tree, some lights and some decorations - we set it up in her bedroom for when she returned from work. When she got home we told her we got her a little something and that it was in her room - when she popped her head around the door she jumped with excitement - it was fair to say the rpessie went down a storm! We went to the night market for tea - nice and cheap - and then headed back to house and watched another dvd whilst lauren put some crazy thai sparkley bits in my hair (a teacher at her school had done it to her and they looked goodso thought i would have some in too).
Tues 2nd - very early start -5.45am- had brekkie and made our way to the bus stop - it was sad saying bye to lauren as we had had such fun over the past 5 or 6 days. We couldnt have asked for a better way to spend our last few days in Thailand!
