So after leaving Chiang Mai at 6pm, we arrived in Bangkok at 6am and as we wanted to get down to Koh Pha-Ngan for the Full Moon Party on the 12th we had to travel on bus for around 35+ hours - fun times. So we spent the day in Bangkok feeling rather tired and got on the bus at 6pm again headed for Koh Pha-Ngan - this time the bus was luxurious - we had blanket each, seat each and they even showed two movies which made time pass incredibly fast - although we didnt manage to get loadsa sleep.
Wed 12th - The bus stopped around 6am and we had to wait until 7am for another bus then we got takewn to the ferry point and eventually arrived in Koh Pha-Ngan around 1pm after an extremely choppy crossing - we managed to get a guesthouse when we arrived in the ferry point but it was a 20min taxi ride away from where the Full Moon Party (FMP) was held - we knew we couldnt get anywhere closer though as you have to book well in advance. Anyway we grabbed something to eat and then slept until 8pm, got up ate and started drinking. The taxi left for the party at 11pm and cos the roads were wet it took a bot an hour to get to Haad Rin - where FMP is held.
In the taxi we met a lovely couple from Seattle, US and another lovely couple from Munich in Germany - we spent half the night with the Americans and until 4am with the Germans (when they went home). The FMP was intense - everyone was covered in neon body paint - we bought some purple and orange and decorated ourselves accordingly. Everyone was drinking out of multicoloured buckets - at one point in the night, Gill attached two of our empty ones to her shorts as we wanted to build sandcastles later but they were too annoying and therefore dumped! To go with our neon paint, we also wore our multicoloured sombreros (which we 'acquired' in Vietnam0 - they went down a treat - loadsa people commented on them - it was a good conversation starter :) but towards the end of the night/morning they were starting to annoy us so Gill left hers on a table and i gave mine to a random walking past. It was really funny as later on in the morning we saw a couple of people fighting over one of them - it made us chuckle!
As it was nearing sunrise we decided to sit on the beach and watch it - sadly it was a little cloudy so there wasnt much to see - got chatting to a lovely group of guys from Huddersfield thoug. All in all we met old friends and new friends at the FMP and it was the best night out of the trip so far! We got a taxi home around 8am - and the taxi journey was hilarious - there was a group of irish girls who were steaming - the girl sat next to Gill in the taxi fell asleep on her shoulder with her mouth open - Gill thought she was trying to eat her - other people were a little jealous and wanted to know which perfume Gill was wearing! ha it was a good end to our evening.
Thurs 13th - We fell asleep rather quickly and woke up around 7.30pm - we headed down to restauarnt, grabbed a bite to eat, I went back to room and watched a dvd on ipod whilst Gill went back to sleep. We pretty much lost this day altogether - it was a weird feeling.
Fri 14th - we woke up at 9ish today hoping the weather would be glorius - but it wasnt. and the resort we were staying at was down a dirt track with one bar/restaurant and a tiny beach. If we wanted to go anywhere we would have to pay for a taxi - so we decided to move resorts - we headed to Thon Sala (the town where the ferry ory was so we were moving in the right direction). We found the cutest little bungalows on the beach - it was called Pha-Ngan Villas - the man who ran them was called Pod and he was lovely - so accomodating. As soon as we arrived, the sun came out and we spent the rest of the day on the beach - that evening we had a wander around town and had an earlyish night as none of the bars were very busy.
Sat 15th - got up at 9, had brekkie and hit beach - Pod said he was taking some other people snorkelling and asked if we would like to go. we left around 1pm - Pod took us to the peir where we scrambled across 3 boats to reach a small boat - we were then taken to a deserted island - first of all, we all (there were 9 of us) started exploring the island - but quite quickly Gill, two Finish girls and I headed back to the spit we had been dropped off on and started snorkelling- however the water wasnt overly clear and the sun was shining so we just sunbathed instead. on returning to our own beach we went for a wander right along it and stopped off for a drink on the way back. Town was once again not very busy (something to do with the kings sister dying or something - alot of the bars etc were closed), so we watched a dvd back at guest house with a few of the others.
Sun 16th - after brekkie we arranged for Pod to take us to a waterfall and temples. the waterfall was not as amazing as i had hoped but it was still pretty. We then visited a crazy Chinese temple and a beach on the north of the island before finishing up at a monestry on top of hill with the most amazing views down the coast of the island. On returning we stayed on the beach until sunset which from Koh Pha-Ngan was very beautiful - we have some great pics :)
Didnt really want to leave island as weather was beautiful but time is passing so we had to move on if we wanted to go everywhere else we had planned.
