Woke late, it was so quiet, birds coming right up to our feet, they have little fear of humans. Left at 10am and drove north on SH 2 aiming for Hastings. Weather just right for travelling clear and bright. Down through the valleys came to the famous Hawkes Bay wine region. Stopped at a couple of wineries, where you can sample and buy at reasonable prices. Our second stop was owned by Steve here we spent a few hours and had a lunch platter . It was lovely.
