Gibbs Locates
We've woken up at about 7.30am..it's pretty quiet in the Milan suburbs, it looks like it's going to be another nice day. We head down stairs for breakfast....again its a bit odd it looks like Family Choice biscuits with some Jammy Dodgers and a piece of Treacle Tart? Bizarre.......I opt for the coffee and the waitress gives up on us, the French birds who were complaining about their McVities Digestive Biscuit Breakfast manage to get an alternative of cheese spread and bread......we get zip. They're really nice people who run the Hotel but cant understand why we wont eat their breakfast. It's easier to ask for another coffee.
We get showered and pack all the bags and lug the stuff downstairs, we've got to get to Milan's Central Railway Station and we're told to get on the Number 91 bus on Via Romagna....so it's the usual walk round the block twice before we work out where we're going, what should be a 30 second walk takes 15 minutes. Eventually we find the bus stop. It arrives, we hop on and it dawns on us that everyone is holding pre paid cards. Once again we cheat the local taxpayers by getting a freebie. One stop before the station, security jump on board. They ignore us and concentrate on the Rose Selling Immigrants at the back of the bus. We hotfoot it before they get bored with them and decide to question us.
So we head into the very impressive station., it's so impressive it should have 500 foot epaulettes on it's roof and a 1000 medals for bravery should adorn it's magnificent facade. We buy the tickets...not cheap, well in my opinion....its about 40 pound each...for what will be a 2 hour trip travelling at 150 MPH...(I'm not doing kilometres....work it out yourselves)....so maybe it's on a par with a London Intercity ride from Cardiff to the capital. The 1.15pm train is fully booked so we've got a couple of hours to kill.
We wander off down the square and there's a big market going on...food & vegetables. Italy is blessed with good farming weather and it shows as the produce looks great. We find a cafe and get some Coffee, then we find a Pizzeria and Grant opts for a slice of the greasy cheesey one. He cant finish it. The slice of pizza cost 4 euros....Milan is not cheap.
We hang around the station until the train is ready for boarding....chaos ensues....The locals seem to take delight in the tactility of barging past each other and then the shouting starts as everyone works out they're in the wrong seats. It's a 10 minute performance and everyone has really enjoyed themselves. We're now heading to Florence.

Gareth Gibbs You’ve developed a rather large fan club here in Florida. Everyone wants to read each edition as it comes in. That’s the measure of your success here. Love from your father x
