Gibbs Locates
We arrive in Naples Railway Station at 2.20pm......we need to get on the last ferry to Ischia Island which leaves at 3.10pm.......we get to the bus station but no sign of the bus we need...damn, we're going to have to take a taxi to the port if we're going to make it. I'm loathe to use Taxis as they're expensive...but when needs be. We hop in the cab and promptly enter Death Race 2000.
Naples is a lot like it's cars, battered. Seriously, you would not want to drive a decent motor in this town, every car bears the scars of motoring in Napoli. Pedestrian crossing the road? Be courteous and slow down? Not in Naples, it's down a gear, foot down and see if Mama Bellini has still got it in her to sprint out the way of the battered Fiat taxi heading towards her at 60 miles an hour. it's highly entertaining. When you hit the traffic you get the feeling that the cars are trying to crawl over each other.
Naples, or what we see of it is rugged rundown town...it looks like my kind of city. I could quite happily get lost here. It looks insane. We however, need to make it to the ferry terminal. We get offloaded and run across to the terminal, only to find we have to jump on a shuttle bus......we make it to the ferry with 3 minutes to spare. We board. There are other ways to get to Ischia, namely by hydrofoil which caters for the later part of the day, but we want to able to see the views.......and boy do we get views. We pull out of the harbour and get to see the full swoop of Naples bay.............it's epic.....and the further we get out to sea , the better it gets. From the left you see the castle on the mountain...then the sprawl of Naples City.....then to the right the Majesty of Vesuvius........it's stunning. It's a throughly enjoyable 1.5 hours cruise to Ischia Island.......
Many thanks for all your comments...please keep them coming as that way we know people are following us. It's a bit like Vision On...we cant reply to everyone as we're on the move and sometimes there's no wifi...or the batteries go flat on the tablet.....but we do appreciate them....Lloyd & Grant.

Clive Nice to see that the driving habits in Napels haven’t changed a jot since we were there some 15 years ago with Ma Scragg, as you say great entertainment!!
Ma Gibbs Lloyd, you should be a writer! I could see Mama Bellini scuttling out of the way of the taxi, I was out of breath running for the ferry and then I took in the wonder of the Bay of Naples. Don’t you think, though , that you ought to take it easy for a day or two? Love Ma xx
Gareth Gibbs I did an unheard of thing and got out of bed at 7amSET to read the latest installment.I wasn’t in the least disappointed. I can see that Naples would attract you, but oh to be on that boat looking across the bay at Vesuvius! I hope you’re taking many photo’s. Love from Pa. xx
Gareth Gibbs Anxious to read what others think too.
Andrea Ah Magnifico I am jealous
Naomi My 5.50pm out of Waterloo has just been made immeasurably better. I might read it aloud to cheer some of these morbid commuters up! Can’t wait to turn the page and find out what it’s like on the island!!xx
jaynelove bellissimo!!! I,m just like everyone else , cant wait to turn my computer on for the next thrilling installment....Just wish I was there!!!xxx
David from Basra Am enjoying your trip very much. Am exhausted just catching the connections. Glad you are enjoying the sights and hope you are having fun . Best wishes
Big Steve Loving it, makes a boring day in the office considerably more tolerable.
Gareth Gibbs I think Ischia was the Island home of the British Composer, Sir William Walton who wrote Facade among many others, say hello to his memory from me. Pa. x
