Hello everyone once again.
We are now in Durban but will tell you about the last 4 days in Swaziland. My birthday (Gemma) was great. We went for a 10km walk through the Swaziland bush. We saw a mountain called Execution rock which we later learned that a long time ago people who had done wrong were speared off the edge. This mountain is huge and it had a shear cliff face for most of it. I spoke to my family which was nice. It was good to hear their voices. We spent the evening of my birthday at the bar at the hostel we stayed at. I got brought 4 shots called 'Springbok' from Darren, the Barman and a group of American girls which were lovely (you'll be shocked Sam, Natasha & Daniel). Then a birthday cake came out and everyone sang Happy Birthday which was, considering we were in the middle of nowhere, one of the sweetest things since we left England.
Wow Friday was the day of Quad biking. Which both Darren and I think it has been the best day yet, Darren wont stop talking about it and now wants to buy one as soon as we get home (need your help Sam on this)! We started off by learning about the bikes for 10minutes before we started on our ride through Swaziland. We got to grips with them very quickly and within 20minutes Darren was trying to see what they top out at. They're pretty fast actually :o) We stopped off for tea and biscuits at a homestead (local Swaziland family mountain mud hut house). Then went off again through mountains on very dusty tracks and through rivers. It was so much fun. And again Darren was the only one who went fast through rivers, everyone else went sensibly. There were only 4 of us. Us 2 and another English couple which was cool. We were all in a line following the instructor (very cool bloke called Richard). We all were going at a fair rate when the guy from the other couple took a corner too fast and was thrown off. He was ok but the Quad bike wasn't. Both front wheels facing different directions! He was trying to keep up with Darren but lost control. Richard our instructor had to go back and fetch his other bike so left us 4 to play around for 2 hours and have lunch. We played on a field for an hour. After 5 minutes the children from the village came over and we were playing chase with them while we were on the Quads. They were having so much fun and laughing. It was great to play with them and make their day a bit different. We rode back to meet Richard (Gemma leading as she was the most reserved rider). Darren doing donuts, snaking it up the hills and getting his Quad sideways around corners on the way. Funny how we had both never been on Quads before but suddenly Darren's an expert, typical bloke!!! We went to a waterfall afterwards and had some dinner which was chicken and maize (cooked by the homestead people). It was really lovely. The waterfall was amazing, photos will follow soon. We had such an amazing day and to finish off we rode in the back of Richards pick up (they all do it in Swaziland). Darren bought Richard a beer back at the hostel as a thank you for such a brilliant day. Richard said Darren should now be known as 'Doughnut Darren'.
Saturday we went to Manzini Market and we brought lots of crafts. Manzini is very third world but it was all about the experience. We had a relaxing day as Sunday we were on the Baz Bus for 10hrs straight from Swaziland to Durban and we were both a little stiff from Quading the previous day.
We will try and put the photos on tomorrow, but some of the computers here aren't allowing us to upload photos. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.
Hey everyone at Coastway. Has Mandy had her baby yet? If she has what is it and what is he/she called? Hope everything is going well.
Until tomorrow, lots of love Gemma & Darren xxx
