Gemma and Darren's world wandering travels
Hello everyone,Another very long journey on the 'Baz Bus'. It rained when we left 'Durban'. We had to put the tent away wet so decided to stay in a dorm to allow the tent to dry properly (it has to last us 6 months!) We stayed in a Rondaval which was similar to the one we stayed in at Kruger. Coffee Bay is a very beautiful place and once again, extremely different to Durban. Very chilled is the best way to describe it. As soon as we arrived we had a very warm welcome with a free drink from the bar which eased the 10 hours we just did on the bus. Our hut was on the other side of the river which made it even quieter. We arrived quite late so went to bed early. Bunk beds, nice! The following day we were both wide awake at 5am. That’s quite a normal thing over here due to the sun rising early and getting hot quick. So decided to go for a morning stroll across the beach. No one else around apart from a local dog that decided to tag along. It was very peaceful and beautiful. No tourists for at least a 100km in any direction. Just a few hippy backpackers kicking around :o)We got back to our hut around 8am and decided to get ready fro a 10km walk to the famous 'Hole in the Wall'. This is a large rock or small island if you like just of the coast with (yes you guessed it) a large hole running straight through it. The walk takes you along the coast line which was very up and down the whole way. Constantly locals would start to walk with you trying to be your tour guide, explaining that you won’t find it with out them and that they want money for them to show you. It was quite annoying after the forth person had tried it on but hey, all part of the experience! The only thing that really shocked us is when an 8-9 year old boy was asking me (Darren) for some drugs. But that’s just the way it seems to be around here. Took about 3 hours of trekking and it was well worth it. Absolutely amazing to see. Oh, and the dog decided to come along as well... The whole 10km. We just sat and watched the wave’s crash through it for what seemed like ages. Yeah, peace man ;o) We then had a lovely lunch just down the road before starting back. Walked about 2km before hitching a ride, dog in tow as well. Its very safe here to hitch in Coffee Bay as recommended buy the hostel, please don’t worry Karen & Ken :o)Quite knackered by the time we got back. Had an early dinner and went to bed at 9pm. We had a great day. We're back on the 'Baz Bus' tomorrow to go down to Port Elizabeth. It will be a 12 hour ride from which if you look at our map (click on our homepage then click 'View Full Map') you'll see just how little that journey is in comparison to the size of Africa. Makes you realise just how small Britain is!Speak to you all soon when we'll also upload the photos of Coffee Bay and tell you all about Port Elizabeth.
Lots of love Darren & Gemma and once again thank you for all the emails and messages on our message board, please keep them coming as they really do mean a lot to us to read them.
Bye for now, love you all xxx
