Getting lost while exploring
Woke and went one block over to Amaya's house for breakfast. Wow she can cook, there was so much delicious food and fresh tropical fruit. She'd also prepared fresh fruit juice and Cuban coffee. Our taste buds were exploding and our stomachs couldn't fit it all in. We met her Mum, husband and children. Her kids were really cute and full of energy running around as 2 and 5 year olds do. Got changed into active wear and sneakers to walk the Malecon which is a 8km broad walk along the ocean. This was awesome as we got to see so much, it was relatively deserted of tourists, no one hassled us and the sea breeze kept us cool. I had forgotten to take my sunblock out of my backpack on our flight from Mexico to Cuba and had it taken off me and hadn't found anywhere to buy any so tried to get some shade when we could. Drunk loads of water! Stopped an numerous parks, markets and attractions along the way. Had some street food from a massive outdoor BBQ place. Got tucked 1cuc after using a toilet that had no seat, toilet paper, basin and didn't flush. It is what it is. The food was really good. Near the end of the Malecon we headed into Vedado and walked in the shade along some of the main calles. Could feel by burn tingling so stopped to sit in the shade and get an ice cream sundae. Got a coco taxi (a small covered two seater pulled along by a motorbike) back to Habana Vieja. Had a shower, lectured myself about my ridiculous sunburn (again!) and lay in the air con until the sun went down. Had a couple of beers on our balcony and people watched till dark. Headed to the square for mojitos and dinner, again the food was amazing and so cheap - probably my favourite meal yet of the trip. Got chatting to a couple of Americans from New Jersey, one was planning a trip to Aus & NZ in April so gave her some tips. She works for Sephora in NYC and told me about the biggest one that opened a couple of months ago on 42nd street, she suggested I buy an extra suitcase to get stuff home. Moved on to another bar Cafe Paris that had a live band. Drunk some amazing mojitos and got carried away by the talented band. Absolutely awesome way to end a great day.

Andy Hi, have enjoyed reading your Havana blogs as going there in a few weeks. Can you remember where your favourite food places were? Any dishes or restaurants in particular we should try? Or avoid?! Thanks!
