Getting lost while exploring
Backtracked from Carlsbad to Encinitas along the coast. Sam drove and had spontaneous outbursts of yelling the models and years of old American cars. He also frantically demanded that I take pictures of them all, which was impossible whilst recovering from mild heart attacks and sitting in the passenger seat.
Found a cafe for breakfast called Potato Shack and sat out the front in the sun. Sam was presented with the biggest pancake we have ever seen, I had to willingly assist with eating it. Inside the cafe was really cool and they had potato head toys for kids to play with.
After breakfast decided that I would drive the rest of the way so that Sam's eyes could marvel at the cars safely and I could focus on the road. Stopped off at Laguna Beach and frolicked around the beautiful gardens, almost rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous lounging nearby in their mansions and resorts.
Hit the LA freeway & traffic. The GPS said we had an hour till we arrived at our hostel in Hollywood......two & half hours later we finally arrived at 7.45pm. Got excited when I saw the Hollywood sign. Checked in and found out about the event they had that evening at 8pm. It cost $20 each for dinner, drinks, limo bus and entry to a club in Hollywood. I powered to get ready so we could get downstairs to eat, drink and mingle.
Got involved in a game of beer pong with some French who took the game very seriously. My skills escaped me and it wasn't until near the end of the game that I finally sunk one, in my defence they had an extra long table and some foreign rules.
Shortly after a beer bong was being held up with no takers. I thought I better do the right thing and volunteer to the amazement of the Americans and foreigners who seemed like they hadn't ever seen a female do one by their reactions.
Got in the last limo bus and went clubbing. Had a great night, but lost my Glassons cardi....gutted.
4am festivities and a courtyard band started in anticipation of the LA half marathon right out front of the hostel. The band and cheering continued until 10am. Checked out at 11.30am and found a cafe. Barely made a dent in my breakfast as I felt horrid.....blame it on the cheap vodka.
Walked along Hollywood Boulevard, it was as gross and sleazy as everyone described. Was too hungover to deal with all the hagglers and homeless people. Took no photos. Amazingly there were no celebrities in sight.....shocking!
Drove to Venice Beach, paid $12 to park in a car park where we slept for a good couple of hours. Walked a bit along the boardwalk and had some yummy fish burgers. Decided we should find a campground and return to Venice another day when we were in better spirits (health).
