Getting lost while exploring
Woke up at 7.30am busting for the toilet, Sam wanted to continue sleeping as per usual and told me to squat outside the van. Considered it but decided that I was too old and sober, plus we were in a wide-open space in the middle of the desert surrounded by Ranches. So, hit the road with Sam sleeping soundly in the back, purposely didn't drive smoothly. Watched the sun rise. Stopped at a gas station and grabbed a vanilla cappuccino, probably didn't contain any coffee but tasted delicious and warmed me up.
We had breakfast at JT's Diner in Roswell, it looked nothing from the outside or inside. Best omelette I've had in America and I've had a lot of them! Also, had a side of blueberry pancakes and bottomless coffee.
Parked in the heart of the town in Roswell surrounded in tacky Alien stores. Visited the UFO Museum which I thought was awesome as this story has fascinated me since my early teens. Roswell was one of my favourite TV shows.
Took lots of photos and wandered around the museum reading all the affidavits & articles. These people really believe that a saucer crashed with aliens inside and that it was covered up. Were all of these people crazy? Or were they telling the truth? Visit the museum & make up your own mind.
Was great visiting real small town America. We visited a couple more antique stores and I really wanted to buy some teacups to add to my collection, but am living out of a suitcase so didn't. Was relieved they didn't have more car advertisements. Drove past a gun store next door to a daycare centre, only in America.
Hit the road towards The Grand Canyon which was a long drive!!! Beautiful weather so we had some great views along Route 66 and the I40. Chased the sun again & watched the sun set. Couldn't find a rest area or an open campground so parked up on the side of the road to sleep.
