On the way to Waitomo we stopped at Karangahake Gorge, which has been voted, one of the 101 must do's for Kiwi's. This meant to fulfil our Kiwi Experience it was a must! Not only is this one of the most stunning stretches of river in the country it is home to one of the busiest and most lucrative goldstrikes in the country. The Windows walkway had windows blasted through the gold mining tunnels that provided stunning views into the Waitewheta River. The walk took 50 minutes with plenty of opportunities for photographs.

Waitomo was home to the Black Labyrinth glowworm caving. We were booked on for the original caving adventure that consisted of jumping over cascading underground waterfalls In black tubes staring up at the Glow-worm filled underworld. The black water rafting is definitely a must do activity it was a lot of fun it was a little cold so I am glad I opted for the 3 hour experience over the 5 hour one!
