Today we had a couple of stops to stretch our legs. First stop was Cape Foulwind where our driver dropped us off and one end of the walkway and met us at the end. We passed a seal colony, a lighthouse and beautiful panoramic views of the mountains and coastline.
We waited for the horse riders to return before continuing our journey; our next stop was Punakaiki Pancake Rocks and blowholes. Formed over 30 million years ago, the geological phenomenon is a result of seismic activity forcing the shallow sea bed to the surface. Over time, water and wind have eroded the limestone into shapes said to look like 'stacked pancakes'. Which then also meant that we had to try out the famous pancakes for lunch in the nearby cafe!!
Our third stop of the day was to check out the hidden gem that is the Truman Track - a 15 minute walk that winds through ever changing scenery from tropical rainforests to limestone cliffs to spectacular sea caves.
Our final stop was in Greymouth where we were given 90 minutes to find a costume for the fancy dress party at Lake Mahinapuia. James has chosen the theme and we had to free as something beginning with the first letter of our first name. For 'G' I had a couple of ideas and decided to go as a bunch of grapes! This was going to be interesting...
