We had a look around the town's dinosaur sculptures and went through the museum. Sheep farming was a larger concern in previous years. Lunch at the FJ Holden cafe for their award winning burger and excellent memorabilia. We had a game of bowls with the locals on their synthetic carpet greens.

Ravenswood is an hours drive from Charters Towers. Another old gold town with some unique buildings. We saw the old court house as well as the miners cottage along with a few old pubs still standing.

Took a stroll around the town to visit the historical buildings. We undertook an escorted inspection of the Venus battery which was very interesting in relation to the equipment being used in that time, the twenty four hour operation of the plant and the poor working conditions which would have a major effect on family life. It was great to catch up with a number of old mates from my table tennis days in Townsville. Sadly my old Townsville and North Qld championship partner Eric Leonardi passed away just weeks before I arrived. I couldn't keep up with them in the veterans now! It was great to visit the RAAF museum but these days not allowed on the base to reminess! The strand has been upgraded magnificently and is a credit to all concerned. Sadly the criterion hotel has closed.
