Arriving in town we were welcomed by the dust. In our eyes and at the back of our throats. I think more from the dry earth than from the mine, although this is so close to town. We saw the underground hospital built incase the war came but luckily it was never required. The underground mine tour was fantastic. Cloncurry has the John Flynn Place Museum with the history of the flying doctor. The visitor centre houses the Mary Kathleen Mine display, I don't think I have ever seen so many different rocks and minerals. We also saw the old rail ambulance among the old farming machinery. We also managed a drive to the Chinaman Creek Dam and Rotary lookout.

Julia Creek is home to the Dunnart, thought to be extinct until a sighting in 1992. The At The Creek centre had some great stories told by locals about the area. We stayed off road for the night at the free camp along the creek.

Morning tea at Richmond gave us time to see the Kronosaurus Korner -Australia's only marine reptile museum. Some amazing fossils that have been uncovered in the region are in display.
