When I woke up this morning I could see the sun peeping through the blinds... and it stayed out all day! As predicted, all of the sights looked a million times more attractive and we played a blinder by postponing our trip to Manly until today.
This morning we strolled down to Circular Quay to get some better shots of the Opera House and it was definitely worth it. With the light reflecting off the different tiers of the roof it looks so sexy (strange word to describe a building but it's true, believe me). After that we hopped on the ferry to Manly which gave us amazing views of the skyline and across the harbour at the bridge and Opera House.
It only took about half an hour to get to Manly and we headed straight to the beach where we stayed for a couple of hours. It's a gorgeous beach, all soft sand and turquoise sea and full of people enjoying themselves. After that we went off to do the scenic walk around Manly which hugs the coastline past Fairlight and Forty Baskets Beach, into Sydney Harbour National Park, past Reef Beach and up to Dobroyd Head for a view over the district. The diversity of scenery at Manly was breath taking: from perfect beaches to swanky apartments overlooking the harbour (hell, if I had the money I'd definitely buy a holiday home there), to beautiful little coves with natural swimming pools, lush greenery and the wild beauty of the National Park.
We got the ferry back to Circular Quay after that, had a closer look at the Opera House and then got a drink at the Opera Bar, where you sit under canopies with a view of the bridge and harbour. As you can see, I enjoyed an icy Strongbow (the tightarse Britishness in me prevented me from spending a tenner on a cocktail!).
I've come to the conclusion that the best word to describe Sydney is photogenic. It's just so bloody good looking! All the architecture is brilliant and when it's sunny everything looks incredibly slick and classy.
So, it seems that Sydney has it all... God I hate the Australians, lucky b*stards! Today I'm genuinely struggling to work out why I've always been so loyal to England and the only conclusion I can come to is that it's because I've never spent much time anywhere else. The only things that I miss from home are friends and family (big time!) and the music scene. So my solution to that is that we should all emigrate together - who's involved?!
Love and miss you all loads x x x
