We made it!
The excitement kicked off with a star spot in T5 at Heathrow: Leona Lewis browsing the gossip mags in WHSmith. I got totally over-excited, much to the bemusement/disgust of my travelling companions, and was going to pap her but couldn't work out a way to do it without her noticing. After following her about looking a bit demented I gave up and we went to drink tea and wait for the flight.
After an 11.5 hour flight we touched down at Tokyo Narita Airport at 9am local time. The flight was horrendously boring and seemed to go on forever but I wasn't scared once which is strange considering I had believed I was phobic. Also, I didn't have a single cigarette for about 16 hours and I didn't even crave one once. You see, I've already embarked on my voyage of self-discovery!
The three of us are suffering from severe sleep deprivation now; I can honestly say I can't remember having been so tired but if I sleep now I'll be out of sync for the rest of the time here. We probably managed to get about 2 hours tops on the plane and are now having to deal with a full day in Japan. Have left Jim and Don in our room having a powernap.
To be honest we're a bit too comatosed to take in the full craziness of being in Japan. But travelling on the (very efficient) trains through streets full of colourful signs and bicycles sent a little shiver up my spine. And I've already mastered the mental toilets (I'm not exaggerating when I say it took me 5 minutes to work out how to flush it and by then I'd made the toilet sing and squirt water all over the floor).
We're taking it relatively easy today so we're just off to Asakusa to see a shrine called Senso-ji and then we'll get an early night.
Thank you Luke, Jonty, Liss and Nic for the lovely facebook messages - they made me very happy!
Right, I'd better go wake the others up now so we can go traipse the oppressive heat! Love you and miss you all x x x x
