Gemma's Travels
G'day everyone!
Hope everyone is well, we both are fine and loving not workin again!
So please we have finished work now but still really pleased we did it, such a good experience and met some really lovely people, The Scots - Craig,Beth, Ryan, Emma, Cara and Ross, The Dutch Martin and Koen and the English - Tom (possibly the sweetest guy ever!), Emma and Rachel. Tom made us a scrap book of photos and messages from everyone which was so thoughtfull - love it soooo much, as you can imagine it made Mel cry!
After we finished work we had a couple of nights still in Ayr before we left just chillin with our good mate Tom. Saturday night was our last night so we went up to Townsville for big night out with 12 people from our hostel - such a good night as you can see from our photos. Drove back sunday mornin - very hungover and in no mood for a bus ride down to Airlie Beach but it had to be done!As soon as we stepped off the bus we ran into Gary, really sweet Irish guy who we'd met at Delta backpackers who had left few days before us, so was really nice to see a familiar face when we arrived.
Had an early night to recover from the night before! Next day we looked into booking our Whitsunday Islands boat trip, found 1 we liked the look off and booked it up! Spent to rest of the day sunning ourselves round the laggoon - really not much else to do around here but it was all good as we needed some relax time after all our hard work.
Decided to have a night out as we are in Airlie - party town! yager bombs were flowing and had a good dance with Mel and Gary! Gary, who is a fireman, insisted on picking us both up and swinging us round - such a giggle. Night ended with Mel being thrown in the lagoon - luckily I escaped as it was 4.30am and bloody freezing!
Next day was spent recovering by the lagoon once again! In the afternoon we packed for the trip the next day. Was planning a quiet night as didnt want hangovers for the boat trip but didnt end up that way, no big surprise! Mel had some really good news from home so we decided to celebrate! Went out to a really nice Thai restaurant with Gary and 2 of his roomates Andrew(English) and Aven(Aussie). Really good food, cant believe I've never eaten it before but now feel more prepared for when we go to Thailand! Ended up havin another really good night out with lots of Yager Bombs - new favourite drink! and not gettin in till 3am - ooops!
Up at 9.30am to check out - not feeling 100% as you can imagine! spent the mornin sorting ourselves out and boarded the boat at 12.30 in the afternoon - very excited about the next 3 days ahead of us.
Whitsunday Islands, well words cannot decribe how beautiful the beaches and Ocean is here, it is amazing.
Daddy I am taking you there to go diving, you will love it so much.
We were on a catamerang (cant spell it!) called Wings, 25 passengers and 4 crew members - very cosy! Mine and Mel's bed was in the kitchen! everyone else was downstairs! Ended up being a bit of a bonus though as we had a lot more room than everyone else!
After sailing for about 3 hours we stopped at Maureen's Cove where we did some awsome snorkelling over the Great Barrier Reef - wow! We then had our dinner prepared for us, so nice what a treat! And so nice not eating pasta or rice!, we than sat round chatting witht the rest of the group and watched the underwater photos that had been taken earlier that day and then chilled out infront of a movie.
2nd day up at 6am - bit of a shock and we headed Tongue Bay where I dived - wow again! Really amazing saw so many different types of fish and saw Nemo and Dori! and the coral is breathtaking with all the varities and colours etc.. (wait till you see the pics!) We then sailed around to Stingers Bay where we had a lovley lunch and did some more snorkelling - even better than the day before with even more fish and coral, really really enjoyed it. Again in the evening we saw the photos from the day on pull down screen. Me and Mel spent some of the evening on the front deck looking at the stars, it is amazing how bright they actually are with no street and building lights! Really cool evening, chilled as and relaxing.
Final day up early again for some more snorkeling and diving. Again really good our skipper King Dave threw bread in for the fish which was really cool and there was one massive fish a bump headed parrot fish called Elvis who lives there who came to say hello - you would not believe the size of him! Was really good. We then set sail back to Airlie beach about noonish.
This is where I am now! Going out for drinks with the group from the boat and crew so should be a good night out - again!
Honestly daddy not just on the piss the whole time even though it has been a bit heavy the last week or so!
Deb, was so lovely to hear from you. Glad everything is good with you. Cant wait to come home to all these new babies! Hope the shower goes well. Wish Sam Happy Belated Birthday from me, glad her party went well.
Am missing everyone loads but am over 1/2 way now - cant bloody believe it only 2 months left. No lie this trip has flown past so quickly. Cant believe we have only got 7 days left in Australia. We are racing up to Cairns tommorrow and hopefully will go to Port Douglas before we leave for New Zealand.
Love to everyone as always, hugs as well.
Lots of Love
Gem
