We had a 9 hour trip in a mini van to Mount Bromo in Java. The last bit was the worst as it was all windy round the mountains. It was FREEZING! at our hotel which was really high up the mountain. We were woken at 3.30am to take a jeep up to a hill to watch the sunrise over Mount Bromo & 2 other volcanoes that were very close. The view was amazing & you could see the smoke coming from the craters of the volcano. The jeep took us back down the hill where we took a pony rise up Mount Bromo, it only took 10 minutes but was quite steep in place (after Mt Kinabalu, we didn't fancy any more climbing for a bit!). Then there was a massive case of stairs we had to walk up & at the top you could see over into the crater to see all the sulphur smoke coming out. It stunk like rotten eggs & really made you cough & gag but it was so cool to see a real volcano that close up. We had breakfast back at the hotel & it was straight back to Bali, the journey was longer this time though as our minibus broke down 6 times on the way back!
