Our first two nights in Siem Reap we spent in a cheap hotel. Not the hotel we wanted to go to but we are used to the motorbike & tuk-tuk drivers totally ignoring us now & taking us to the hotels they get paid commission at! The first night we watched the sunset at a temple on a hill, it was part of the Angkor Wat tour we had on a tuk-tuk, it sounded lovely when descibed & it was, but it was obviously part of everyone else tour as well as it was absolutely packed! We had dinner at a brilliant place. It was called the Dead Fish Tower, it was on 3 levels with ladder/steps going up to each one, some of the tables you could sit on the floor with cushions. The best bit about it tho was the crocodiles downstairs! We went back there again another day for lunch so we could feed them, altho I accidently lobbed my chopstick in! oops! We got up at 4.30am to watch the sunrise at Angkor Wat Temple, which was amazing, it was still full of other tourists at that time but we got a good spot to watch it & I guess some of them went home after the sunrise as we managed to get a few good photos without ramdon people in them! There are soooo many other temples there, we were knackered by the end of it! Our favourite one was the second one we saw we had heads carved into the top of it.
We finally got to move into our luxury hotel on Christmas Eve. It was lovely & had a bath AND shower & the shower was actually in a separate cubical! We had satilette tv & a kettle & even a balcony looking over the pool. Shame we only got to stay for 3 days!:o(
They celebrate Christmas Eve over here rather than Christmas Day so we had a meal out by the pool on Xmas Eve, they had a dodgy Phillipino band on tho that was quite funny! They also had some kids from an orphanage come out & sing some carols, it was so funny bless them, one of them had the microphone & he kept forgetting the words & going out of tune, really cute. The meal was nice, they had roast chicken & beef & veges, but no gravy or yorkshires or pigs in blankets! Then they had some random rice & spare ribs, I had about 4 lots of pudding! Christmas day, we opened our pressies & had a massive breakfast & hung out by the pool for a little bit then had a massage in the Hotels spa. We had Thai for dinner! Boxing day, we tried to sort out getting up in Laos but found out we had been a bit unorganised! The visas take 3 days to come through & we would have to take a taxi to Stung Treng to get over the border as no buses go there! In the end we paid out for a flight into Pakse, South Laos as they issue visas on arrival there & we wouldn't have to pay for a hotel for the extra nights.
