From our house, we can SEE snow capped mountains but we had missed snow where we were staying by only a week. So disappointing for the kids but on a practical level, very lucky as the steep, windy little road up to our "castello" was undrivable in the snow. Already you can only get up this road if you're in first gear. Anyway, despite it being a 4 hour round trip to Tuscany's only ski field, we were determined that the kids see snow for their first time. (Well for zoe, the first time that she could remember.) In true Burford style though it was 1130am before we even left-urrrg! How can it take so long to get out the door?! Adam understandably a little anxious about driving on the crazy autostrada. People completely ignore they 130km speed limit & are not at all shy about honking, tailgating or flashing their lights at you. As expressive in a car as they are when talking! We arrived with a few extra grey hairs but safe & sound. Rewarded with a white wonderland. The snow was higher than the parked cars and thickly coating rooves. Despite the sleet (drat, drat) we all got our fix. Zoe spent the whole time sliding down her "snow slide", zac helped me throw snow balls at daddy & I got to make a little snow man. Of course, we only had normal clothes and shoes so were saturated and freezing in about 20 mins. Eventually we retreated into a cosy little cafe to change into dry clothes and eat one of the best pizzas I've had in italy. Washed it down with a thick, thick hot chocolate. It literally seemed like someone had melted a block of lindt into our cups. Kids in heaven & had it all over their faces. Buonissimo! A short but "sweet" snow experience!
Ps ignore photo, still can't get ours to up load so this a generic one
