I got up early, showered, and rented a bike from the hostel. It was 50Baht for the day, £1. Bargain! It would have been easier to rent a scooter less work involved, but I didn't fancy my chances, first off, I've never driven one, and I have heard so many stories about people coming off them. Plus. I'd wouldn't get a helmet that fitted! So I set off about 9 o'clock. Koh Lanta has a main road the goes north to south, with the beaches running down the right hand side. I wanted to get to Long Beach, which I was told was about 8km away... It wasn't to hot yet. Cycling down to the beach was nice, not many cars on the road, and no accidents! It only took me about 40 minutes to get to the beach, luckily their we're signposts! I did see a small snake on the road side. I just peddled faster for a minute to make sure i was well away from it! Arriving at Long Beach, I put the bike to one side and had a short walk up the beach, always keeping the bike in view. There were loads of trees on the road side. And the sun hasn't made it over the top yet, so the beach was still in the shadows, I put my towel down and just relaxed. The beach was massive and I was the only one there. I think I could see the islands of Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Ley in the distance. I got my book out and started to read. There were loads of crabs running around on the beach, they were small, and a translucent white colour. They didn't bother me, they were running down to the sea, every time the tide came close.
The sun finally managed to break through over the trees.. And it was the first time I started to feel hot...! It's going to be a hot one! I decided to have a quick swim before putting my sun cream on..! The whole time in the water I tried to keep my feet of the floor because u didn't want to step on any of that crabs i'd seen run sideways into the water! Stood in the sun for a bit to dry off before applying the sun cream. Laid on the sand reading my book! It was getting to a good bit, as the witness has just been murdered. I was turning my body every 30 minutes or so as I want to make sure I'm not patchy! By about 1 o'clock, I think I'd had enough sun, so decided to have another swim before the bike ride back up to the main village were I was staying. I could feel the sun beating down on my arms and tops of my legs while I was cycling...! I know that will end up burnt, as I couldn't be bothered to stop to more cream on! I was nearly back at the hostel, and saw a nice bar near another bit if beach, so had lunch! Yet again. More amazing food, fried rice with chicken, and shrimp tempura. Yummy! Had a few drinks there and watched all the boats going past. Took the bike back to the hostel and chilled in my air conditioned for a bit, working out my plan of action over the next week, before my visitors arrive. Ao Nang, Krabi is my next stop. Booked my accommodation on my phone. A private room was cheaper than the dorms. So I thought I would treat myself. While I'm in Ao Nang, I'm walking distance to Railay beach, which I've tried to get to a couple of times already, but failed.
I had another walk around the village shops, and travel agents to book my transport, 450Baht!! It seemed to be the same price everywhere. Stopped and had a strawberry milkshake, and decided I wasn't hungry for dinner so didn't bother. I headed back to my room, and sat our on the balcony, and continued to read my book as the sun was going down!! I was knackered. Not sure if it was to much sun or the bike ride, but headed to bed. I was then woken up about 01:00am, there was a massive thunder storm, it sounded like it was over my head... I just listen to it as it got quieter and quieter, before falling Back to sleep!
