I was having the best night sleep ever until I was woken up at 3 o'clock in the morning by someone's alarm going off. He was smashed off his face and sleep through the alarm that was going off for at least 20 minutes. It was the intro to the song "A beautiful day" and I am sure it had woken up everyone in the 8 man dorm. In the end a guy went a woke this kid up, and turned his alarm off. I managed to get back to sleep after a little bit....
Once up for I was meeting Edelyn, we had some breakfast and headed down to the city centre. It was only a couple of dollars on the train. We went straight to Circular Quay. Today was a day of exploring for me, as I only have today to see everything in the city I wanted to before leaving for Hong Kong in a few days. Edelyn and I went to the bridge first to take some pictures. Because we had done the bridge climb a couple of days before we were able to go up the viewing platform for free. We walked to the centre of the bridge first, taking pictures of the Opera House and Quay. On the fencing of the bridge people had locked padlocks onto it with engravings on them, names of children, couples it was a great idea... It would have looked wicked if the entire bridge had been covered in these padlocks... If only I had know, I would have had one done, and I could have added to the collection.
The pylon lookout was impressive, and even better as it was free. It then gave us a great view point to take loads of pictures over the city. We watched a number of groups walking the bridge. Walked back to the Circular Quay train station and said goodbye to Edelyn. It was back to being alone! I walked around the Quay first to replace the Christmas decorations that my mum had purchased here and lost. Then it was time to jump on a bus to the BONDI beach! The bus journey was about 25 minutes, and it went past the hotel that the family stayed at. So I decided on the way back I would get off here and walk to Darling Harbour.
Bondi Beach wasn't very warm. In fact it had a ice rink on the sand, and people were playing ice hockey. It was cloudy and raining, I could exactly sunbath in this weather. I walked from one end of the beach to the other. A lot of surfers were out on the water on their boards. The waves were nothing compared to the waves at Byron bay where I did my surfing lesson. I walked to the Bondi life guard hut located in the centre of the beach. I promised a friend that I would take some pictures, sadly for you Bex there were no life guards. Picture of me in front of their headquarters will have to do. lol. I walked along the shops before getting back on the bus to Hyde Park.
Had pizza for lunch in a small restaurant before walking the route from the Saville Suites to Darling Harbour, down Liverpool Street. I knew the route, and remembered where I was going. Darling Harbour had changed a lot since I was last here.... But it was so nice! I had got a travel ticket so I went back to Hyde Park and walked around the Anzac Memorial and the shops before going back to the hostel for a shower and change of clothes. Cian and Rachel had told me to watch the Darling Harbour fireworks while I was with them in Melbourne so I wasn't going to miss it. I managed to get a bus most of the way back to Darling Harbour, as my travel ticket was still valid. I knew there was a Hard Rock Cafe at Darling Harbour as well, so I was going to eat there after the fireworks.
The fireworks were amazing... I took some pictures at the beginning, but then stopped as I wanted to be able to enjoy the show. It went on for about 15 minutes, and it was one of these free events - the quay was packed. I just sat people watching after, playing around on my camera, using the different settings, trying to get some great pictures of the Darling Harbour. Of course I had to take pictures of the boat restaurant that we ate in before. Hard Rock Cafe was packed when I tried to get in there... So I thought I would go to Circular Quay and take some pictures in the dark. I am loving the new setting that I have found on my camera. Must have added another 50 pictures of the harbour bridge! I found a restaurant in Circular Quay called City Extra is was a news paper theme restaurant. It seemed familiar, and I may have eaten here before in 2001, but I cant really remember. I had a full 3 course meal, and I was stuffed by the end of it. it was midnight by the time I finished my meal... I guess I shouldn't have been eating that late. (Never mind). I then got the train back to central station and then walked the 2 minutes back to the hostel. Had a great day. Really looking forward to tomorrow. My last full day in Sydney and Australia, and I have something special planned.
