Woke up this morning about 10. It has been the first time in a long while that I've had a lay in. Today I am meeting up with some more Australian Harpers. My Dad's cousin Chris and one of his boys, Dylan. Joel is currently skiing - so he wont be around... I know I didn't know they had places to ski in Australia either! (Australia really does have it all!). Me and Chris has planned to meet in the City. He was going to pick me up from the Town Hall. I had to google it to find out where it was, but it was only a 10 minute walk away. I did arrive really early, and being a Sunday the shops were not open this early. So I sat on the wall outside the Town Hall, and it was the first day of wall to wall blue skies and sunshine.
Chris also arrived early, and he said that he recognised me as soon as he arrived, and I knew his face as well.. It has been 10 years since we last saw each others. Chris has managed to park around the corner, so we walked to the car, and headed to Dee Why, It is a nice beach town to the north of Sydney. About 10 miles north of Dee Why is Palm Beach the location that Home and Away is filmed. Our first stop was to collect Dylan from him Mum Linda's place. He has grown up a lot, he was only 3 when I saw him.
Chris drove us to a place on the coast called Long Reef view point, right next to a golf course. It must have been about midday by now, and the sun was shining. It was so warm... We walked to the view point, and you could see all along the coast, you could make Manly beach in the distance. A perfect time to take some pictures. Of course I got some pictures with Chris and Dylan. Our next stop was to a nice pub/restaurant. We had some food, enjoying the sun and talking about both sides of the family that live so far apart. I'm really glad they were able to meet me. I think it was nice to catch up after all this time. After lunch we went to Chris's house, I thought it was big, and it had a massive music room, that the kids all love. When I say kids they are actually 13 and 16, but compared to me, they are kids.! They even let me listen to some of the music they had put together, I actually really like it. We then headed to the school that Dylan and Joel - Joel and Chris showed me their skills on a funky looking skate board... I didn't want to risk it, I would have fallen off and broken a leg... not a great idea before a long haul flight tomorrow.
Chris was nice enough to off me a lift back to the city, however I decided it would be nicer to drop me in the next town Manly and then I will get the city boat back to Circular Quay. We dropped Dylan back off, and I got a chance to say hello to Linda. Then on the way back to Manly me and Chris continued to talk about what has been going on...! Chris drove me to the beach, and we said our goodbyes, I promised it wouldn't be another 10 years before one of the UK Harpers visited Australia again. I then walked along the beach at Manly, before walking through the town to the pier and caught the ferry back to Sydney. Not sure if it was the boat movement but I feel asleep on the boat, but I managed to wake up just before arriving back. Got some good pictures of the Opera House from the water. I treated myself to a ice cream when I got back, and headed back to the hostel. I have an early start tomorrow and needed to sort out all my bags.! I hate this bit... Repacking!. It was my last evening in Sydney and Australia. I decided to go to a bar not far from the hostel and have a meal, and a couple of beers. Mexican food! I cant believe my trip is nearly over. I have one last leg of my trip. I have loved coming to Australia, I have meet some amazing people had some amazing time. Hong Kong here I come.
Alarm set for 7 o'clock tomorrow morning, bags all packed... Looking forward to seeing my buddy, who is flying to Hong Kong to meet me :-)
