Today was an early start, I was up showered and had got to Edelyn's hostel before 7:30. Then we both walked around to the YMCA hostel where we were bring picked up. The weather looked ok, it was cold but the sun was trying to break through. Thinking back to last night and the amount of beer I had drank, I was feeling good this morning. No hangover. All did needed some food though.
Our day started with a 50 minute mini bus journey to the Featherdale Wildlife Park, this is the same park that my family visited 10 years ago. There were loads of animals! Mostly all deadly as all animals in Australia seem to be able to kill humans! We arrive and got given tickets and a paper booklet that we could get stamped! Each animal station had a stamp of that animal, and to confirm you saw them all, you were able to stamp your book! I was really excited by this, it was like stepping back in time (I was like a big kid!). Not sure Edelyn was so keen! lol. Once we had seen all the animals we wanted to see, fed the kangaroos and had taken over a hundred photos, we went to the cafe, bag of crisps and a cookie would sort out my hunger!
Once back on the bus we headed to the Blue Mountains. It was time to walk around the forest at the Wentworth falls. It was a short trek about 2 km, up and down the forest, with great views over the blue mountains. It remained me a lot of the Grand Canyon. Except it was blue and green instead of orange and yellow of the Arizona desert. It was wet and muddy on the footpath, and my camels got covered in mud. At one point edelyn got her foot covered in mud when she stepped in a deep muddy puddle. I got some great pictures of the water fall. It was nice just to be able to look over these amazing views and silence. breathing in all the fresh clean air! Thank god I had my jacket as it was so cold in the forest.... when you were out in the sun it was fine.
Next stop was Katoomba, this is the town next to the famous echo point, and the 3 sisters located at the Blue Mountains. We were dropped off in the town to have a look around while our guide went to the YMCA hostel at the top of the street to set up the BBQ. This town was a little hippy, and honestly didn't have any shops that we wanted to go in, so we just walked up to this hostel. I helped the guide a little getting stuff ready, and then dinner was served, hot dogs and salad - we were then given the opportunity to try kangaroo steak. I had already eaten Kangaroo burgers before and liked it, so I had some of the steak... Honestly, it wasn't as nice. It was really chewy... I ended up spitting mine out. Maybe I just had a bad piece.
After we had eaten and drank all we wanted it was time to see Echo Point, and the 3 sisters rocks. It was only a quick stop to get some pictures. It was an amazing view. But it was time for another trek in the woods... and down the side of the Blue Mountain. With the view of the 3 sisters in the distance. I counted the steps on the way down, and I got to 1000.. I think I might have missed a few... but that was a lot of steps. The reason we went down there was to get the steepest railway back to the top, it was a little like a theme park ride...! It went backwards up the mountain back to the main tourist information centre. Not everyone went back up on this, they walked.! I wasn't walking back up 1000 steps! Had a rolo ice cream and then it was time to head back to Sydney.
On the way back, I crashed out and slept. On arrival back to Edelyns hostel (Our drop off point) our guide gave us some discount tickets to have dinner in the underground bar at their hostel. Every little discount helps when in Australia. I had a burger, and a few beers! Once everyone had finished - people headed home. It was late evening by now, and when back in the hostel I started to watch a movie that a group was watching in the TV room. I don't actually know what it was called but it was alright, nothing special. I have planned to meet up with Edelyn again tomorrow before she leaves Sydney tomorrow afternoon (Edelyn is off to Europe!). A really great day, glad I did it with Edelyn - and my mum will be reading this knowing exactly what I did... as we did it before. Night.
