On Friday the 18th april we were picked up by the ripcurl bus in sydney and taken on a 3 hour drive down the coast to our next destination...surf camp! Hence the title we were going to learn how to surf.
Up at 7am on saturday for brekky we were briefed at 7.45 and sized for wetsuits. Sarah was fitted with an action hero wetsuit in which she got the nickname, spidey. Then a short walk from camp we were given boards and on the beach for our first of four two hour lessons, in the cold and wet. Both of us managed to stand up in our first lesson and it was clear that we were better than everyone else at surfing.
Lunch consisted of chicken snitzchel burgers and fruit...mmm, then it was back to surfing, with strong currents and offshore winds, it was tough for first timers!!
In the evening we headed up to the nearby pub, described as a really bad wedding reception, true, it was a two peice cover band and no one knew any of the songs.
Anyway up sunday morning birght and early at 7am again to have beans on toast mmm... then back into our damp wetsuits after ANOTHER night of rain and into the sea! What can i say, we are both brilliant surfers for beginners.
AND on the way back we saw Pelicans!!!
In the afternoon a session on surfers etiquette, which is fairly complex although understandable. Then sadly our last session on the surf so we made the most of it by ripping up those waves!
