Today we got up at 8am to get picked up for the Inca Trail. My phone was still playing up and I was starting to develop a nasty cough, not much I could do about either. We hopped on the bus and headed down a small dirt road to km 82 the starting point. On the way we saw the axel of another vehicle come off with all the porters standing on the side of the road.
Once we reached the start of the trek we were given our walking poles, sleeping bags and mats. We packed our duffel bags and gave them to the porters to carry. Soon enough we were crossing the train tracks and taking a photo with the Inca trail sign. After this we had to wait in line at the checkpoint with our tickets and our passport. This took about an hour, then it was time to hike.
The trail itself was mostly dirt and walking past small communities. We stopped after a few hours for lunch and were greeted by the porters clapping and a tent set up. We were given lunch and friend trout and dessert. I could get used to this.
After lunch we hiked for a few more hours and up a small hill, it is harder to breath at altitude. We then got to camp around 4pm and soon after met our hwole crew of porters and cooks. The youngest being 19 and eldest 61. We then had 'happy hour' tea, popcorn and biscuits - yummy. After this it was time for sleep as we had a big day of hills coming up.
