Last night was a rough night. I woke up in the middle of the night and was sick. After this I was able to get back to sleep but my stomach was cramping a lot. I ate some pancakes for breakfast and even skipped my daily coffee.
After this we jumped on bicycle taxis and got a ride to the port. At the port we boarded our boat to head to the floating islands.
We visited a small floating island with two women, a man and a child. We learnt that the islands are built on the roots of the reeds and then the reeds are Criss crossed on top to keep the island a float. At the island we went on a reed boat tour around which was nice.
After this we got back on the boat for a two hour trip to tranquil island. As we were coming into port the boat got rocky and I became very nauseous. We then had to walk up a very large hill at 3800m high - not easy particularly when your sick. Once up the the top square we went for lunch. It was set menu consisting of a quinoa soup and a choice of trout or vegetable omelete. I had the omelette which came with some veggies, rice and chips. I didn't each much of the omelette as I wasn't sure how the egg would go.
After this we walked back to the square, my stomach wasn't very good so I had a seat while some of the other group went to look at the textile shop. We then walked 45mins downhill to the docks to get back on the boat. We then headed to our homestay island.
Once at the homestay island we were greeted by our families, in traditional dress and with music. We then walked to the local school where we were able to play football with the locals. I even almost scored a header.
After this we were dressed up in the local clothes. I had three layers of skirts which was then tied around with a right belt. We then did some local dancing before heading up the hill with our local family - still in traditional dress.
The family we stayed with consisted of gabino - grandpa, Janet - mother (her husband works in Puno during the week) and two granddaughters one a three year old called Lucinda. We were shown our room which had colourful blankets on the bed and then Lucinda came to play with her barbie dolls. Tom was showing her pictures on his phone and she was playing games on my phone before dinner.
We had dinner about 6.30 which was a small kitchen up the hill. We had a first course of potato and vegetable soup followed by vegetables with rice. I was so full. We also had some cocoa tea before heading back to the room and falling asleep around 7.30.
