Two whole days to enjoy in Cuzco, enjoy being asked every two minutes if we want to buy a painting, jewelry, look at a restaurant menu or have a massage, manicure or pedicure. You can not walk down the street without being asked as least once all of these things. It can get a bit much.
We arrived back in Cuzco and were glad to get to the hotel. Didn't feel like much company and still a bit teary, Michaela and I headed out for a cheap hamburger and fresh juice for dinner, followed by a much needed hot fudge sundae from McDonalds!!! Put our smelly washing in for laundry - I hate the smell of wet socks.
Wednesday was a quiet day. We went out for a traditional full english breakfast and then a few of us girls went shopping. I bought some lovely silver jewelry which was Grandpa's Christmas present to me - thanks Grandpa.
That night we went out for Louise's birthday. Went to this pub that had a pretty good 2 for 1 drinks special. 2 Cubra Libres (Rum & Coke with lime) cost 10 soles (3 soles = US$1) but I know my limit, especially at altitude and only had 4. That was enough. Was a good night. Ewan, our driver asked a few questions about our trek and said he was going into the Tucan office the next day and would ask questions on our behalf on why we didn't have 2 guides.
Yesterday was a bit of a cultural day. I was one of the few feeling healthy after the night before. Visited 2 museums and 1 art gallery. Saw the beginning of a ceremony for the changing of the Mayor of the city. Happened to walk past some children all dressed up and posing for pictures for a nativity scene. Very cute.
Went into this lovely shop and started chatting with the owners. They were so sweet, completely opposite to all the others that are constantly harassing you. Chatted with them about 20 mins. I bought a little something for a Christmas present for one of the girls and they gave me this cute little Llama key ring and sent me off with a kiss and hug. That reminded me of what the other side of South America is like.
Had to go back and completely repack my bags. Seems to get harder. Out for a quiet dinner with the girls and then to bed. Today we drove to Puno, our departure point for Lake Titicaca tomorrow.
