We crossed the border from Ecuador into Peru with no problems. We arrived at our destination of Punta Sal where we set up our tents out the front of a hotel on the beach. I survived the 3 nights camping on the beach although wasn't feeling best for 2 of the nights, so it was nice to pretty much do nothing for the 2 whole days we were there except for walk on the beach, swim and relax.
We were up at 5am yesterday morning to pull down our tents and be on the road by 6.30am for another long day of driving. The landscape definitely changed and I almost felt like I was back in the middle east. Lots of desert landscape and sand. We stopped at the Lambayeque museum, which houses artefacts found at a tomb known as the Lord of Sipan, only found 27 years ago. Lots of gold, silver and copper and skeletons found. We drove onto Huanchaco, another beachside town where we are staying at a lovely hotel. 4 of us girls went out for a great seafood dinner. It was cooked on the parillada outside the front of the restaurant. We are going to head back there tonight, it was so lovely and fresh.
Today we visited Chan Chan, which is the largest mud city in the world, about 26sq km and was built by Chimu Kings. Seems to go on forever. A lot of it has been restored and you can see by the photos the intricate work. Some beautiful stuff. From here we then drove to Huaca del Sol and Huaca de la Luna (Temples of the Sun and Moon). They had beautiful murals they have uncovered and some have been restored and some are as they were found. We had a guide for both and lots of information given to us. All the artefacts found are now in museums.
So back to town and a walk along the beach. Weather is quite cloudy and lots of sand blowing so not a good beach day. Tomorrow we head to Lima, the capital of Peru and have 3 nights there. We pick up 9 new people on the tour which will bring us to 31 on the truck. It can take 34. Should be interesting.
