Had a lovely whole day at La Serena, with nothing to do but cook, go for a walk on the beach and relax, which was needed after a very late night out at the observatory.
We were picked up at 8.30pm and it took just over 2hrs to get there after picking up other passengers. Moon was quite bright which is apparently bad when star gazing but we saw enough. Our guide was funny and full of enthusiasm which was needed when all I wanted to do was fall asleep. Our tour started at 11pm and went for 2 hrs. We looked through one telescope at some different stars. He pointed out some constellations, including my own star sign, Gemini. Never knew where that was before. Learnt some interesting facts about the stars and explosions mythology. Went and used the big telescope and looked at the moon. Could see the craters quite clearly before we went and used another telescope where he took a photo of the moon with our cameras. I really enjoyed it and glad I went.
We arrived back at the campsite around 2.45am to find one of the guys passed out in the dirt, sound asleep and one of the girls walking around trying to find her tent - difficult to understand considering hers is the only tent with a bright red fly - easy to understand if you could see how drunk she was!!!!!
So the next day it was our turn to cook. We did french toast for brekky while hearing the gossip about the previous night. Apparently quite a few words were said between members of the group and our leader and driver. Not sure if there are going to be any consequences but sure there will be some harsh emails sent to Tucan.
After brekky went for a lovely long walk along the beach with Matt & Juliett, before cooling off with a watermelon juice and then relaxing at the campsite, playing some cards before preparing dinner. We cooked a spaghetti carbonara and salad and it was great. Really love when it is our turn to cook.
Today we have driven to Santiago, the capital of Chile. We had been told we had 3 full days here, but Ross realised there was an error about an hour before we got here and now we only have 2 full days before moving on. However, glad to be in a hotel after 8 nights of camping.
