Today was the day to either get serious or whimp out. The easy choice was to take the ferry to the island of Kalsoy to see the statue of the seal woman. But, I didn't get rolling fast enough to drive to Klaksvik to catch the 8am ferry. The 10am would work, but the I'd spend most of the day on Kalsoy since the return is pretty late.
So I got serious and decided to climb the mighty peak Slættaratindur. At 880 meters (2,900 feet) it is the tallest mountain in the Faroes. Tall enough that occasionally you can see the Vatnajökull glacier in Iceland. That's a sight line of 550km.
And, wouldn't you know it, the clouds were as thick as egg drop soup at the top. I met a Russian couple at the top, Antoine and Alex. We were all waiting for the sun to shine to take pictures.
The summit is flat, which is what the name Slættaratindur means.
