My Big Adventure
The day started the same as any other. We got up and breakfasted and then checked out of our room. We then jumped in the car and headed for Yungaburra with a couple of stops on route! Our first stop was Barron Falls where we took the short walk down to the viewing platform. As there hasn't been much rain recently the falls weren't that spectacular. While here we saw a few different birds and lots of butterflies. After the falls we headed down to the platform to see the Kuranda scenic railway pull in! After seeing the train pull into the station we headed back up the boardwalk and back to the car park. From here we headed to Kuranda. At Kuranda we had a little look around the different shops and then had a picnic in the park. After the picnic we went into the butterfly sanctuary where we saw lots of the butterflies we had seen in the wild. Then we looked around the markets and headed to the koala sanctuary where we saw lots of lizards and crocodiles and then we got to actually cuddle a koala something that I had been wanting to do since we arrived but it's only allowed in Queensland. So Kiki the koala came for a hug. After my Koala cuddle we went to visit the wombats (which were much bigger than I imagine) and then fed a baby joey! From here we looked at the other animals and then said goodbye to Kuranda and continued our journey to Yungaburra. Our next stop was a yummy ice creamery (Emerald Creek) which was so very scrummy!! On the journey from Kuranda to Yungaburra we were lucky enough to see a flock of kites/eagles circling the fields. I think there were probably almost a hundred of them circling - I was so very excited by this sighting! So the journey continued once more and we arrived at our hotel for the next few nights and waited the arrival of Lucy. When Lucy arrived we had tea and scones, caught up on the last few months and saw 4 kookaburras sitting in a tree (possibly an old gum tree but I'm not totally sure). We then met Lolly the lorikeet and headed to see the platypus which decided not to show so we saw some turtles instead. From here we walked around Yungaburra and then went for a quick drink at the local pub which turned into dinner and a couple more drinks as we listened to Dave sing country music and mum and Lucy attempted to do some country dancing!!! We also took part took part in the local raffle and I won second prize! A gift voucher and a Christmas cake! After a lovely evening we headed back to the hotel ready for bed and a day of excitement tomorrow!
