Chilli con no carne Found red kidney beans yesterday and made a great big chilli today. So it didn't marvel Margots meat chilli or Louises veggie chilli (which I believe has smoked paprika yum!) but it was happily eaten and will be again for a few more nights. It had onions, carrots and Yucca all sautéed with scotch bonnet hot chilli peppers for the heat. Added only one yellow one without the pith (thats the hottest part even though people say its the seeds) ...

Enough of porridge for a few days and found some cracked black pepper in Juan Carlos' press... tasty scrambled eggs and coffee.

Second course of set lunch ! Fish balls, tomato sauce, plain rice, plantain and salad. The fish balls here are just fish, flour, spices and yellow / red colour. That's how Miss Orfie (who owned our posada made them anyway). They are all this shape too on the islands. Not quite round, more oval. It's a bit odd how much colouring is added to food here. Set lunch in town. Finally made it into the big smoke. A nice long walk so worked up an appetite. Vegetable soup (with the ubiquitous pieces of meat for flavour lol) It had yucca, green beans carrot onion and a nice broth like taste. I really like the potato texture and flavour of Yucca. It absorbs the flavour of the soup really well as it doesn't seem to have much of a punch itself. Going to cook with it this week and see what else it can taste like.

Camel mangos. Growing across the road. Most of the fruit is taken up with the seed which is the same size as the seed in normal (Irish sold mangos) but the rest of the fruit is much smaller. Two or three of these make up what I'd call a normal mango. There are so many types here. Must list them. The skin will burn your mouth so you obviously peel it first and the fruit is chewy fruit tropical sweet. It tastes fake its so syrupy sweet. I'll add some to porridge ...
